I want to like the game
But, there is just one problem constantly bugging me. The small font and unadjustable Soul Tree UI (I am aware of the Global UI scaling) with several other things just prevent me from being able to set up a better UI for myself. If I scale the global ui too far the Soul Tree will be cut off and unable to move it any further.

I play on a 42 inch Widescreen TV in my living room and it forces me to move away from games like this sadly. MMO games like Tera and Guild Wars 2 have a UI adjustment that I can fully modify to setup my game.

I am not trying to bad mouth this game just wondering if there is any solutons.

so let me see if i have this correct...
you play on a 42 inch tv
and
and when you scale the soul tree enough for you to see it its too big for the screen?

well for starters you will notice rift has a superior setting system then the games you mentioned.

You can alter all aspects of the UI and menus. And you can remap keys for everything.

There are some user mods that alter the menus a tad...maybe you should look for those.

Its interesting you mentioned Tera and Guild wars 2...they have some of the worst options in the history of gaming for settings. And where even dumbed down to a point that you can tell they are being put on consoles in the future....which is why they are so short and are composed of missions that are permutations of "go to this area kill wolves until you collect 50 fangs"

ANywise i wont ask what the text boxes look like to you...since if you cant use the soul tree very well....i am guesisng you cant read the text very well either...in fact i am not sure how you can play any games.

Oh...just thought of this....you might trying upping your resolutuion.....try to run at least 1920 by 1080...after all it is the year 2014..stone age technology is neat but you have to upgrade.
And chnge your saturation color levels....that might help as well.

+1 To OP. I only play on a 17" laptop scrreen and find that the dialogs are a few sizes smaller than I'd ideally like. i know about adjusting resolutions, but usually games usually choke when you don't use higher end resultions.

See I am aware of this. Why you are being a ♥♥♥♥ about me not having a 1920x1080. Not to many people have money to just go buy a new TV. Plus, with my current situation I do not have the room to create a desk area to -Properly- play this game. Also I was asking a question about UI settings not asking for what you thought about Tera and GW2. The reason I mentiioned them is that there UI was already correctly fitted OR with some modifcation was able to adjust it to my desriable size. See you can have these options in Rift but at what cost? Non-resizable windows (Soul Tree) make it a tad hard to play the game the way I want.

The textboxes to me are fine just hard to read to the point of being unenjoyable.

I still enjoy playing on a 21" monitor...maybe you need to have your vision examined, if things are hard to read.

So your 42 inch display doesnt have 1920 by 1080 capability.....hmmm.....ok that sounds like you are doing what i do at home with some things....and kind of sending an image to the TV display.

Sooo first off.....you might want to check to see what your maximum resolution for that video device is. My own TV is not too good with a maximum of 720...but i was for a while runing things with a 640 by 480 resolution which makes the text form things get corrupted....sometihng with the way the graphics being translated.

I am going to assume with a 42 inch display you can at least go 720...which is the old standard for that size of a display.(old tv resolution was 640x480)

So you want to set the game to that at least.

Now for the problematic portions.....you will notice you can resize the GUI and resize boxes....you can also change the text size.

There is a site called cursed.com that has many user made mods....among them are some changes to the actual interface and menus....designed by someone who just happens to prefer sitting down at their living room tv and laying back in a couch and playing. Forgot the name of the mod....you might have to look for it on their site by reading the descriptions a tad.

So basicaly again the soul menu is too difficult to read on your 42 inch display?
.....just trying to clarify that......

this seriously sounds like a resolution issue or possible a saturation issue.....like you are getting some corruption on your 42 inch display..

Oh i have another suggestion not sure if your TV has this ability....but my lesser 24 inch TV..has a sharpness control and typical saturation control but also has this thing called balance control....where you choose btween coloration types(like hot and cool and a plethora of types whihc change the saturationa nd resolution a tad bit whihc help with some images and things you can look at)...if your TV has that...it might clear up the resolution issue. Also My TV has a zoom mode...its not the best....but if by chance you have black bars or something onthe sides you could maybe set it for zoom and that might help with the image as well.

And lastly you can simply just set the game to the same standard resolutions as Tera and GW2 which is i think 1024 by 768. that should make it work fine.

had to edit this in....yes you can resize the soul tree and all menus...in fact you can resize menues and place them and the game will keep track...like having dialogue windows double sized....and the single get items one tripple sized and can quadrupple size the soul tree menu.

Thank you assisting me with this :). I like this post better than the other one. The TV is a Samsung bought a while ago (Flatscreen). Its prefered resloution is 1360x768, I know it's oddball number but it's the best I can do. My setup has me placed somewhat far enough from my TV to where I can see text like the one I am typing just fine. It is just that when I am trying to play in Rift my eyes strain themselve too much. I can't describe but I'll take into consideration your Sharpness adjustment that might help. I don't know. I'll find out a setup sooner or later because I do wanna relive my World of Warcraft days.

I just wish the soul tree could not clip itself then about 75% of my problems would vanish. (I test Soul Builds on the Fly to find my preference)
Psychic Kitty May 14, 2014 @ 8:22am
Yeah my sugegstion sounds like sharpness....but its mroe to do witht he fact you are not seeing the text becasue of the back ground to the text so the TV is dithering the colors so you are getting a tad bit of corruption.

I see this sort of thing when i play subtitled animes through my tv.

The correction for thast is differing fonts....but i am not sure how to change the fonts in RIFT i know you can do it....becasue they wanted to emulate how people can do it in worlds of warcraft.
