RIFT
Signs of the end of RIFT ?
This morning I heard bad news for RIFT. Here's paragraph from website 'mmassivelyop' :

"...we learned through a trusted tipster that multiple Gamigo developers situated in the US and working on RIFT had been laid off from the company. The layoffs reportedly included both Kerilar and Acalos, long-running developers on the game,... "

I got my Well Spun Hat ticket(From TF2) and redeemed it in RIFT. The game always did look somewhat interesting, just never got around to it. Any idea when the final day is? I'd like to get some quality time in.

Enjoy it why it still here, don't mean people have to spend money. In general to anyone. Don't be like people in 5 years from now that your missing the game, and should of played it why it's was still alive.

Defiance closing might be a sign of things to come for RIFT in addition to the video. Why? The announcement of the closing of Defiance coming at the end of April was capped by introduction offer codes for other Gamigo games. RIFT didn't have a code.

gamigo is closing several mmos and doing server merges for archeage/unchained, their cashcow.

just enjoy this game while it lasts and dont spend any money on it.

Game is dead as a gameplay point of view for like 6 or 7 years. Yeah servers are still up but this is a dead game for years now. Enjoy it if you want with a few friends it's fun. But probably will be next target to shut down yep

Literally just dropped 45 bucks on the essentials pack together with the mystic archer less than a week ago. I'm not believing any predictions until something official is announced.

As someone who is legitimately enjoying the game, I would be VERY upset if yet another online-only product shut down on me right after opening my wallet.

nothing wrong with supporting what you like. we all did so with this game. thats not the issue.
the problem comes with gamigo. they again cut the rift staff in the us. i wonder how many are left, since battlepasses and the bugfixes for them are the only "new" addition to this game for years now.

this from the official forums:

“Hey everybody, let me briefly address your biggest concern(s): Rift is not going to be shut down! Most of you already noticed and pointed out a change in internal structures. While we’re not able to publicly address or communicate about those changes in detail, we can assure you that there will be a team responsible for and working on Rift (future development being part of this). If there are still any concerns or worries left about that topic, please feel free to PM one of the CMs at any time. We’ll close this thread by answering the thread’s title (Is Rift Next ?) with a clear NO!”

this is coorporate bullsh**ttery talk. the team responsible for "future development" is going to be the battlepass team, and you can bet your hard earned dollars/euros on that!
rift is an old game. its a good game, but its old and the population numbers speak for themself. any upper suit at gamigo wont invest any money for actual new content in this game, and we all know this.
its simply business.

and as long as enough people buy the battlepasses or subscriptions to offset the "development cost" or rather the cost of running the servers, there will be no need for anything of substance at all.

cynical? yes. but again, its simply business.

Trion failed so hard by not keeping that system in-place, then they sold to Gamigo who cashcowed the loyal player base.

I quit playing the moment I heard Trion sold the game.

Most of the players went back to WoW, some went to Guild Wars 2. I'd look at those, if you wanted to play an MMO.

The writing was truly on the wall back when Dahanese saw to getting Elrar fired.

Well i tried to warn them, the way things were setup is ♥♥♥♥. There alot of pvp players like open world (not adventure mode) and should have kept Seastone locked, that mean no hoping back and fourth. So you would have to start from level one then work your way up.

Of course for those who got money will spend $$$ to get the best drop/keys or chests, that need to be disabled so it would be balance.

So idk about the rest, i really havent gotten far in this game i was interesting getting into pvp in open world, but they ruined it. Was told there are pvp somewhere even on pve, but i seen some attacked a hostile guards or npcs and cant be flagged for pvp. Idk i just didnt like it how things were setup awhile back few years ago.

Not sure what else got them distracted, probably other games are more fun and interesting than this.

is average 250 players a day enough to keep it going?

This is what every rift player should have done. The company is lying to the people and just trying to pull out them dollar bills. The game was basically sucked dry by greedy grasshoppers.

I just reached max level 70 and despite the excellent story, mechanics & aesthetics, I can easily see why this game's toast.

A guild mate took the time to help me in discord to spec my character, and even as he walked me through it I realized the learning curve is much longer than most games, even for an MMO. At one point he even mentioned he's seen a lot of new players bail on the game at this point.

Gearing is extremely grindy, while most games will yield a sense of accomplishment at max level, in RIFT, max level does little to your stats and there's a long time frame to gear up, limited by the small number of weekly quest rewards and dependant on the mercy of players willing to let you into their raids with your weak gear.

It occurred to me that I might be investing my time/effort into something that most new players won't....atop the fact that the game is no longer adding content.

It's too complicated, other MMO's like WoW have had to make the hard decision to tick off their old school base and dumb down, RIFT hasn't.

It's also not very intuitive, while I'm constantly searching google for basic information just to play this game, my son is in his room hollering in excitement while playing Fortnite with his friends.

Dev's take note: evolve or die.
