What a surprise. I come back two years later after getting enraged that a huge assortment of quests I completed disappeared, stealing all my rewards and no one answering my pleas in the forum, but now I see that the game has been pretty much abandoned. Not one player is anywhere to be found, and I traveled around the beginner zone just to be sure. Super duper...

Edit: Since this seems far too complex to understand, I'm saying that I couldn't find anyone or see anyone in a rather large amount of space (the beginner area from level 1 to level 22).

Edit2: I'm finding people now. I was apparently either glitched or on a dead shard. Thanks to Crisaron and Lea Rose for understanding simplistic paragraphs, reading posts in their entirety, not seeing what isn't there, and giving suggestions.

RIFT is the 3rd (or 4th, depending on who's numbers you trust) most populated MMORPG right now. It is hardly empty. I just started playing a few days ago and it's hard to not trip over other people even in the starting area. In case you aren't aware, there's a graphics setting to not display other players (or a certain number)- perhaps your settings are on low and you just aren't seeing them?

The Steam numbers don't even account for a large percentage of the playerbase, as the game launched well before it was on Steam, and most players just use the native launcher (not Steam).

I'm glad to know people still play lol I'm just starting I loved WOW then kids talked me into paying for ff14 so they could have it ( and I pay it lol) but I just hate to pay every month someone told me I should LOVE this game

It could be on by default. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. It's one of the most populated MMOs in the world, it's not empty.

Well as a long term Lineage 2 player i find this game much better than expected, yea graphics are kinga cartoonish, quests are kinda lame but instant pvp , instant dungeons and instant adventures modes are rly fking nice, this game is worth playing even if you are casual players and yes people are still playing it cos there are not that much of good alternative

That isn't even a small fraction of the number of players actually playing. The majority of Rift players don't use Steam to play it, it doesn't account for any of them on that counter.

The next update which is 3.0 is "releasing new raid content, nightmare rifts, level cap of 65, new crafting cap of 450, pvp imporvements, pet's are being made account wide" no idea though that could just be a rumor. Aside from being able to unlock everything via in-game with REX, the games just loosing it's luster.
