That's what I thought but I asked just in case
Yeah the tyre wear tests are a pain in the ass but you just have to switch to mix 3 and follow the line and everything should be good :D
I can now do green going fast and purple being a bit careful. Thanks!
Np glad I could help ya out ;)
Racing line (I kept losing tyre wear on straights on Spain until I realised I was on the wrong side of the track, the position just felt more natural to me)
Engine on Rich - what you lose in the corners you can pull back on the straights
Dump the fuel - set you car up for a low fuel run so just over 8 laps should be enough (doing this for all the tests and qualifying can maybe sneak you a few tenths)
I've tried doing it on harder tyres thinking they would wear less but it doesn't seem to make much difference.
The problem is the more tries you have at it the worse your tyres get so it gets harder and harder. I suppose this would be one advantage of doing it with the harder tyre.
The racing line is must because a straight in the wrong side of the track can make the difference. After a few tries I did all for purple laps on Bahrain.
- Racing line helps a lot.
- Never brake and turn at the same time. Brake and than turn.
- Don't accelerate to the maximum when exiting corners. Even with TC on full, don't go full throttle until you are straight out of corners.
- Try to never steer completely left/right, unless it's a very slow corner.
- Find a setup that's very balanced. While how you take corners matters more than setup itself, it helps a lot when you have a setup that you can drive consistently.
-I struggled a lot with the test in Melbourne. Started P16 or so and ended P9 with the Renault.
-Very next race. I manage to do the tyre wear tests in Bahrain without an issue, pole position and close win.
-China: again I struggle a lot with the test but it's doable. Then started P6 and ended P4 or so.
But in general it's a matter of getting used to it!
