One tip for you: if hard is too easy - try not to increase a difficulty of AI, but try to make yourself slower, by changing assists to professional or elite.
That is what i did
I changed my camera to cockpit mode ( i was on "behind helmet" camera before)
Turned off all HUD
removed TCS and yeah... Crashed... all the time
But that made me slower... a lot slower than before
thanks for you tip man
sebs AI is very accurate it seems. it even tries to ram you out of the way lol.
But yeah you need to work hard on it to become better.
You are not completly wrong
2 months ago (when i was create this post) i got a huge struggle with AI difficulities from Hard to Expert
This is my "Assist Setting" back then:
Brake Assist : Low
Anti lock brakes : On
Traction Control : Full
Racing line : Full 3D
Gearbox : Automatic
Pit Assist : Off
Played with Xbox one controller ( I dont have any sterring wheels whatsoever)
After a month playing this game, now i am at Extreme difficulities (One above expert)
Practice makes perfect
But... i tried turning off all the assist
Nope... i tried 10 laps practice on my favorite belgium track, not gonna happen
It just soo damn hard to control the car from Xbox one controller
So right now i am turning Trac Control to medium, Anti lock brakes off, and drop down the difficuliy to Expert... that is my soft spot right now
I promote TRL Limitless' vids far too much but he did make one in which he kinda proved that turning assists off will make you slower. It will make you a better person but not make you faster,..

Pls stop reading this if you do not want to listen to my rant;
[The distance between the skill gaps in AI is stupid, around 2secs if you believe me, but to achieve 2secs in a race is silly compared with setting a quali lap, cos tyre wear and the odd mistake will not be compensated by the UI, instead they skill gap the UI to try to compete, even though they will set a lap more than a second beyond their quali lap just to keep up with any early attempt to a quick push strat whilst you burn through fast tyres for maybe a longer stint in the second half. You try to make a gap, you don't make one and your tyres are dead and theirs are fine. They also slow down the AI by making them break early, but not by giving them any disadvantage in the traction zone, (confirmed all AI use default settings with full assists, but boost to keep up with you) which srews anyone without assists, especially on tracks like Australia with very difficult traction zones, and you will get rear ended on any straight. ]
PS. Anyone who has played the first 2 races knows the AI needs to be patched once TT data has come in because Aus is way harder than Bahrain, by a terrible margain.
Say a prayer for F1 2017, to be fair I could not make a good F1 game, :s
