Yeah, I tried each of those in turn. Each one just makes the display bigger and cuts off more of the bottom and right. The best I've been able to do is KeepRes=1 and the original video mode of 1024x768. I get close, but still lose the bottom inch of the game. :(

hmm, it is an old game and it was not designed for these kind of resolutions. I have a laptop that is 1366x768 and it shows up fine in the game.
I added KeepRes=1 and Video Mode=1024 in the beginning of Conquests.ini and Civ 3 worked! I am using Mac Book Pro 13.3" 2014, screen resolution 2560x1600.
I wish this would get updated, I don't feel comfortable messing around with the files.
Can you help me about civ3 complete edition? I added the line "KeepRes=1" to the conquests.ini file, and my pc resolution is 1920*1080. however when i launch the civ3, it's full screen but the game is in the middle and small, surroundings are black. how can i play this game at 1920????

Are you referring to the menus or the game screen? The menus will always be 1024x768 because they are pcx graphic based. It can be changed by editing the graphics however. The game screen should extend the full length however and not have black bars if the command is working properly.

when i do KeepRes=1 the game just won't open... any solutions?
I used combo of the following settings for my conquests.ini file

KeepRes=1
PlayIntro=0
VideoMode=1600
Hello,

My screen res is 3000x2000.
Everytime I type KeepRes=1, it doesn't open. The videomode codes don't change anything either. When I open the game, I think at least 25% of the bottom right corner is gone. Any solutions?
1600( * 1200 height) may be the max , this works for me on 1920*1200
compared to freeciv the ui is fecesy

Hello, i just fixed the problem for me with 1920 res monitor.

I use windows 10. Videmode=1600, Playintro=0.

I think the trick for win10 users is to :
rightclick civ3conquest.exe, preferences, Compatability, Overide high dpi scaling behaviour. Scaling performed by Application.
Maybe try to run in admin mode and compatabilty mode for win 7.

That worked for me, thanks a lot!
In your conquests.ini, goto the very bottom and type "SkipIntro=1 and KeepRes=1" then, goto your Civ3Conquests.exe, right click, goto properties, then compatibility, run it in compatibility mode for whatever OS you are running, and then check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" and then okay. After doing this you should be able to run Civ3 with your normal resolution. (Keep in mind that the title screen does not have a widescreen resolution so it will always be smaller than when you are in game.)
If your display is cut off, regardless of what resolution you have, it's likely due to the fact that you have scaling greater than 100% in your Display settings. Go Settings>Display and on this screen there's an option for "Change the size of texts, apps and other items". If this is greater than 100%, change it back, and Civ III will now display properly - although it will also change scaling for all your other applications as well. This is also why 'Disable display scaling...' works to fix the issue for the application.
