Does this work with Win7 Starter OS?
I try to start the game, but alas the CivIII shuts down on starting. Just wondering if this is just becuse I have Win7 Starter. And yes I am trying to run this on a netbook.

Your problem is the netbook. For some reason Civ III requires a resolution of 1024x768 to run, some netbooks are only 1024x600.

Balls, I just bought it on a netbook and I was having the exact same issue. So it only runs at at that one resolution, and there's no way to change it?

You can set your screen via some manner of graphical trickery to 1024x768, but you would have to pan around to see the whole screen, and it's still not GAURANTEED to work. Shame really, I've played this game since it came out and wasn't able to run it on my netbook either.

Eh, probably not worth it, but thanks for the help anyway. I was hoping it would be a good older game to bring travelling with me, but I suppose I cold just go even older and get Civ II or SimCity or something. Fond gradeschool memories of those. It would be cool to see some of those type of games on Steam, but they offer them for free download all over anyway.

been looking for netbook games myself on my nc210 and if it helps heres a list of almost similar games im running, so far: crusader kings complete, anno 1503, aoe2, c&c up to rl2, baldurs gate (org), europa universalis 3 (with some slight .txt ammendments), uplink (best game ever made along with ck2). and about to attempt cossacks and vicky2. i hear, suprisingly, that sim city 4 runs fine on the majority of netbooks but havent got round to testing yet. anywhos hope it helps

I want dat aoe 2 so badly. Unfortunately you need the disk though, right? I wish it was on steam. Or is it not to difficult to torrent? I know I bought it like twice when I was a kid, so I don't care, even if I did care. That last sentence made sense to me only probably. Thanks for the list.

I'm not suggesting you torrent game files for any reason other than making a backup of a game you legally own *ahem*.
That said, Torrenting it is quite easy.
