Sid Meier's Civilization III: Complete

Sid Meier's Civilization III: Complete

Recommended mods?
I loved playing this as a kid and I recently decided to purchase it on steam so that I could play it again. I was looking for mods that would decrease waste and corruption, get rid of global warming (or at least get rid of the constant pop ups for it), and wait time between turns because I remember waiting long periods of time in the later game watching my thousands of workers move around (I had animated movement turned off). I loved this game but those long waiting times between turns started killing the later game for me. Any recommendations on mods to fix those issues or otherwise improve the game would be greatly appreciated :)

I haven't used any mods, so I can't really recommend. Just a note of caution: Steam recently broadcast an update to switch multiplayer hosting from now-defunct GameSpy to Steam. Any mod that hasn't been updated in the last 2 or 3 months may conflict.

What I do recommend is a companion program called Civ Assist II (CA2). It does kind of mod the game, in that it adds a button to the upper left corner of the screen (below the ones for the Civilopedia and Advisors). Click it, and CA2 pops up over Civ3 (click it again and it hides). CA2 monitors Civ3 game saves and loads and parses the last-accessed save file for info on your game, which it then presents in fashions often easier to assimilate than the game itself. For example, the Alerts screen will (optionally) tell you how many cities are working unimproved tiles (and give names), when a competitor changes government type, when cities are on the verge of revolt, how much production wastage each city that completed producing something the previous turn had and much more. The trading screens will tell you who has things to trade that you might want (and how much gold) and what you have to trade that each other player would want, as well as what existing agreements you may have and when they will expire. There's a ton more, and frankly I don't use more than a fraction of the info it offers, but it takes the drudgery out of tracking a lot of the minutiae of Civ3, without actually directly affecting anything in gameplay.

Okay, I'll look into that mod. Thank you.

Other than that, check out http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3

Lots of info. Could be mods there as well; I never checked.

Ive played this since I was a kid too so I know all the best mods :) best game eva
One to watch that is in development is SOE (Storm Over Europe)
As for global warming: I keep my otherwise idle workers planting trees everywhere there's nothing actually being used. Also, removing mines. roads and railroads where/when ever I obliterate a city helps elimenate GW. I rarely have trouble with GW unless an AI gets the better of me. My only wish is that I could re-plant jungles... Also, if you don't plant trees, irrigate; irrigated squares dry up before plains turn to desert, grassland turn to plains, etc. Replant/re-irrigate where GW strikes, too. Plant trees in tundra, too; it's useless otherwise...

I didn't know all that about global warming, thank you.

Not sure what could help you with those specific things, but I do know some good mods. There's one being worked on right now (with a playable build, it's basically just tweaking and making sure things work called rise and rule revisited (RARR for short). Another good one is the Civ Conquest mod, which I haven't personally played, but many people suggest. CCM in paticular states that it reduces corruption and waste and makes pollution almost nonexistent, so you might look into that.

I downladed that one. Still need to test it out. It looked pretty awesome. CCM is fantastic if you haven't tried it. Probably the best part is that 1. there is very little corruption, and 2. workers have two moves so they can move and start work the same turn. Also settlers and workers are created automatically so you don't have to worry about creating a pump.
sounds very interesting i will try it

Patch Suggestion Mod v.2.21 balances the game and besides that does not really change a lot. It makes AI better with maintaining original game. I did not test it with Steam version though.
Escape From Zombie Island II is one of the best put together mods in Civ III

Age of Imperialism also is very entertaining, but turns can take a while

You can have up to 31 players in Singleplayer. For Online MP only 8 and same for LAN I think. Hotseat though, with a special tool available on civfanatics you can have up to 31 players, same with PBEM.
