Sid Meier's Civilization III: Complete

How can you make technology rate go faster?
I've tried to look for an answer as much as I could on the internet but I just couldn't find anything. I know you can increase or decrease the number of turns in the game but does that make the technology learning rate faster? For example if I set the turns to 350, does the technology rate go faster and the years or does the game stop at around the 1700's or the 1800's. Also what does advance mutiple do? I've even looked on civfanatics and I couldn't find a single thing, so I would be thankful for any help.

You can modify your research rate by changing the amount of funds you spend to research. Default I think is 100%, but it can drop automatically if you run out of money. You can change it yourself from upper left of the screen or budget screen.

Decreasing the amount of overall turns of the game would not make researching techs faster. It will only lessen the chance of you making it to the end of the last era.

I think Accelerated Production can decrease the amount of turns to research a tech and it also can vary by the difficulty.

Using the above tip will also make researching technology faster (The default is 50% btw).

If you really wanted to edit the research time more directly you will have to use the editor and you can modify the following settings: Under General Settings, 'Maximum Research Time', and 'Minimum Research Time'. In the Civilizations Advances Tab, you can modify the cost of each technology which will then make researching the tech much quicker.

It is best to do these edits under your own scenario file. Once finished, you can load it in the Civ-Content menu.

Each tech costs a number of research points ($$?). Nothing changes that, afaik. What does change is how much research you generate per turn. The Research slider is the primary control for this, but certain buildings, for example, multiply the research generated in a particular town. Also, you can take population off of resource production and make them specialists: Entertainers, Tax Collectors and Researchers are the options I recall.

Thus, as mentioned above, the number of game turns only really affects how far into the tech trees you will be able to progress.

Thanks for the answers, I think I'll just keep it simple and stick to the defalt 550 turns lol.

No one ever said you had to modify that in order to increase research time.... but ok.
