How can I break out of a Mutual Protection Pact?
In a CIV game I made, it's currently 2000 (A.D.) in game, but I know that a war is going to start in 2001 or 2002, where both Germany and Babylon are tag teaming the Vikings and are dominating, I have a Mutual Protection Pact with Babylon so I'm spared by them and Germany's conquest, however, nearing the end of 2010-2012, Germany declares war on Babylon as both parties have taken down the Vikings' home land, with the Vikings' last home being 2 cities on an island right next to Babylon's homeland, an island also occupied by two Babylonian cities, and meanwhile in the war I wanted to help Babylon take down the Vikings since Babylon was my ally and so I helped out by invading the two Viking cities with just 6 Mechs, I managed to takeover one of them and give it to Babylon, but the other was taken over by Germany (after they declared war against Babylon).
Babylon and Germany are amongst the top 4 CIVs in game (I'm the 4th), and they both have extremely large armies that would take me lots upon lots of turns to actually be on par with them eventually (Since I am a slow starter), and frankly I don't want to be caught in the crossfire in between the two of them in all out war, it's actually a miracle that Germany or Babylon hasn't immediately launched nukes at each other (But yet again it may be because there are alot of other CIVs in the game, so to avoid getting ganged up on by every CIV, they're just playing it cool).
So to the point of this discussion, how do I break out of the Mutual Protection Pact with Babylon without either signing another Mutual Protection Pact with an enemy CIV of Babylon or just from going to war with Babylon? Because I need to build up my defences much more higher due to me having a large continent sized island just across the sea from Babylon, and with pollution being more prominent, across wide apart areas of my homeland, so I need to know if it's possible to break out of the Mutual Protection Pact with Babylon to ensure that my Civilisation doesn't go to absolute waste from foreign forces.

After 20 turns the pact expires. That is the only way afaik.
If the pact has been in place for 20 turns or more, you can go to the deal table, select "Active" at the bottom, and select the MPP to renegotiate or cancel it. Any other actions except for provoking Babylon to attack you would be considered breaking the deal.

That said, you should be able to beef up the defenses of your border cities pretty quickly, through rushing, drafting, building defensive buildings, and localizing your forces. Often you don't need to have a comparably sized military to just fend off an enemy assault, so as long as you play things well you can probably get by without losing more than one or two cities. Now, taking Germany's land is a whole different matter...

I tried to select the MPP at the deal table on active but it wouldn't let me renegotiate or cancel it, so I just had to wait it out, thankfully none of my cities or units suffered any attacks from Germany or anyone else from waiting out the MPP between me and Babylon, however it did take me quite a few turns to contact and make peace with Korea, Germany, etc.

I eventually managed to make peace with all countries I was at war with, however, I have bumped into another fatal problem. Food Shortage on my colony cities. I have two very tiny separate islands just slightly above my main homeland continent, one island can hold 2 cities but it just has 1 on it and it's currently doing fine, however, the second island can hold 3 cities and it used to have just 3 cities, but I had to get rid of one (It was on the left side of the island) due to it's population dramatically dwindling but I got rid of it since it wasn't really a good city to begin with so to get more irrigate room for the other 2 cities, I took all the units from the city and gave it to the other 2 cities and abandoned the city to irrigate the land (I have checked for food on the island, there is food on all the tiles), however my city in the middle fell from a population of 12 to 17 all the way down to 1 due to an unknown growth of food shortage, and now the food shortage seems to be starting to take affect on my city on the right side, a vitally important city (since it's the ONLY city of mine that has a source of Oil in it), yet most of the island's land is irrigated and the food tiles are fine. So, what could possibly be the problem?

And I don't want to take Germany's land because I don't want to end up becoming Babylon 2, because if I go after Germany, Korea might either attack Germany with me and then stab me in the back a second later, they may attack me for attacking Germany or Korea might just attack Germany with me just to gain more land, not only that but Germany is huge, but Korea is more chunky and larger than Germany, hell Korea is at war with both Germany AND Babylon and is slowly but surely winning on the Babylon front but it looks to be a stalemate on the German front? Not too sure what's actually happening there, but it might just be total chaotic festival that I don't want to meddle with. Hell, things are looking very bad for Babylon against Babylon 'cause not only have they lost 1, not 2, but 9 cities AND there original capitol, Babylon, and they've lost 1 source of Oil and Iron and literally MOST of all of their roads and I'm not really sure whether they've been bombarded to absolute hell or if Babylon was nuked or was nuking a gap between them and Korea to buy them some time for whatever they have/had planned. The other continent housing France, Russia, Sumeria, Hitities, Zululand and Japan have also been at war with each other with the only really notice of conflict has been a few Japanese cities being destroyed by Zululand, at least 1 city of Hitities being taken by Russia and Russia taking a couple or more cities from France. Maya is on it's own separated continent just like me but we're both separated by the 2 continents, Maya doesn't seemingly actually go to fight in actual conflicts despite them signing Military alliances against other countries here and there but no actual conflicts have been fought by them it seems. 50% of the countries are Fascist, 40% are Democracy and I'm just a Monarchy with nearly 100K gold, meaning I'm the most richest country in the game and I'm surprised that I haven't been invaded or mugged every other country in game lol.
As far as the food shortage problem goes, looking at your city display should give you a good idea of what's going on. Based on your description, my best guess is that a bunch of citizens have been turned into specialists (entertainers and the like) for some reason (probably unhappiness of whatever sort) and thus are producing no food - you'll want to click on the tiles you want them to work in order to get them out of that mode.

I managed to solve the food problem, still a couple of Civil Disorders here and there but they usually go away in a few turns or so. As of now, I'm just focusing on Military, since recent events in my game have became more intriguing and worrying, I'll explain in just a bit, but here is an update to what has happened so far.

It is currently 2076, Hittities has completely fallen and has been destroyed by the hands of the Zulu, the Japanese and the Russians, marking them as the second Civilisation to be destroyed, Babylon is close to becoming the 3rd, but back to the other Continent for now. Sumeria has recently becoming more, well, cocky as of late, because not only have they declared war on Korea, the largest, top ranking civilisation in the game, but they have also declared war on Germany, Zululand, Russia and Japan, with Japan already taking 2 cities from Sumeria.

Now, onto Babylon's case. They are doomed. Not only have they picked the wrong civilisation to declare war upon (Korea), but they are completely out of shape to even fight on their mainland, 5 of their cities have already been taken with 1 destroyed in the process, and somehow they have still 1 last city completely surrounded by Korea in their old mainland, and if you think it can't get as bad as them losing 6 cities with only 12 remaining and out of shape, let me tell you how incorrect you are. Babylon, with full intention, declared war not just on Korea, but Germany too. I sometimes ask myself whether Babylon wants to die or if they just want to make every country in game go to war with Korea.

And so because I know Babylon is going to inevitibly be utterly annihilated by Korea and Germany, I'm starting to focus more on my Military, but I want to focus more on Aerial Invasion from above rather than from the Sea so when I'm invading Korea, nothing will stop me Sea-wise like Destroyers, AEGIS, Carriers, etc, and so it'll be more simpler and cooler to try out rather than just going Normandy Beach on Korea. However, I worry because I'm not sure whether or not if Korea is more keen and prone to using nukes more openly or if they're still sticking to bombers and such.

But other than my game, what game of yours from CIV 3 would you like to talk about??
