Civ III: Game of the Year Edition. Vanilla, some maps, and a making-of video
Civ III: Gold. Vanilla + Play the World expansion.
Civ III: Complete. Vanilla + Play the World + Conquests.
That is correct. If you enjoy Civ3 Gold, it's worth getting Complete and thus the Conquests! expansion. Conquests! includes nine scenarios of its own (the "Conquests"), and Complete bundles some more scenarios with it as well.
There are also hundreds of community-made scenarios available at https://forums.civfanatics.com/resources/categories/civ3-scenarios.25/?order=download_count&direction=desc, and most of them are only compatible with Conquests/Complete.
And it's only $5 for Civ3 Complete on Steam or GOG, as low as $1.25 on sale. Fantastic value.
IMO, Civ3 Complete versus Civ4 + Beyond the Sword are both great games, I still play both of them. I recommend both!
This post looks to cover the changes from PTW to Conquests: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/civ3-conquests-additions-changes-list.104294/page-2
And this one from Vanilla to PTW: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/frequently-asked-questions-civ3-play-the-world-conquests.170282/#PTW
Not unless you find it in a local thrift store. Civ3 Complete costs as little as $1.25 on sale. Shipping costs alone would cost more than that for the disc version. The cheapest copy I see on eBay is $8.23, which is significantly more than the $5 non-sale price of Complete. No reason to buy Conquests on disc nowadays unless you want it as a collector's item.
No. By the time digital distribution was a thing, Civ3 Complete was already available, so it's the only version that is available digitally.
Having bought Civilization three times physically, and one time online, I can say without a doubt that Civilization Conquests has been worth the money each time. Over the almost 20 years I've played it, I'm probably spending 1/1000000000000 of a cent for every hour played. Despite the fact I bought the game four times over!
