Best governement
so of all the government in the game which do you guys think is the best.

I personally think communism is straight up broken, they give you the best buff!
"but you commerce suffers!"
"yeah but my production doesn't!"

and if you have a different gov you are likely to blow whatever money you get on accelerated production anyway, but with communism you never NEED to, so in the end I get WAY richer by going communist. it is by FAR the most broken gov!

Republic is usually considered the best even for the entire game, because without religious trait, anarchy can be more trouble than its worth, and most experienced players try to finish games as soon as possible: so they wouldnt want to waste time in anarchy a 2nd time. You lose commerce and production time in anarchy so there is a setback there that you have to regain over the later turns.

It doesnt really matter. Depends on the victory you want to go for. If I want economy, I like civs like France, because I can build up fast with industrious and I got the commercial trait. If I want total peace and economy, then England is nice too, though that civ takes some time to develop. Usually in my economy games I go for civs with Commercial or Seafaring traits, which make up most of my games, since I dont play much by myself anymore, and the players I play with in default civ3 are usually not on a high difficulty lvl: so it would be too easy for me to use warfare.

I typically tend to go with monarchy, however I've heard Republic is just as good, if not better.

I used to stick with monarchy too, though in late game, communism is super broken

I have used the following strategy successfully on Monarch difficulty. First if possible try and build the Pyramids by the end of turn 90. Then kill 2 or 3 nearby civis in the late Ancient and early Medieval area.
Once easily defendable borders are established (which is easiest to do on an archipelago map), change government to Republic. The republic cannot support a large military (military over the limit costs 2 gold per turn), but it gets a commerce bonus and relatively lower corruption. At this point focus on tech and get key wonders (such as Smith's Trading Company, Copernicus' Observatory and Newton's University).
If you want to take over the world (which I usually do) you will need to switch government to communism. I like to make the switch after finishing the Theory of Evolution and getting the 2 free techs. The computer typically researches communism early in the Industrial era, so it should be easy enough to trade for it. Once the government switch is complete, kill off the weaker civilizations with infantry. Then wait until you have tanks and modern armor to kill off your main rivals.
Switch to democracy instead of communism if you want a more peaceful end, with the space race or diplomacy. If you want a culture victory, it is probably best to stay as a republic and skip the second phase of anarchy.
Fascism is never recommended. Monarchy can be used instead of Republic if you need the bigger military. If you frequently want to make use of forced labor, then Feudalism can be used.

TL DR, The best goverment is Despotism (early) to Republic (middle) then Communism (end)

I typically try to get to Republic as soon as I can, I think it really helps with science and industry as I try to keep up or seperate from the computer in the middle ages. And then I switch to Democracy when I can(war and trying to build wonders dictate that).
Recently I've been playing on harder levels which has had an affect on my peoples tolerance for war, making democracy a pain. For the most part I don't have a problem with war/that government.

I have been following advice and going republic, and I do like the science boost, but even in piece, your citizens being whinny ♥♥♥♥♥ kinda takes away the production buff witht he constant civil disorder, and forget raising and army to keep the peace. I jsut go for monarchy and run with it, its got draw backs but less you need to fuss with. also it depends on how close and dickish my neighbors are. (though If I find free warriors in the beggining I generally steal their workers in the beginign and break their roads before they get a chance to piss me off. its a ♥♥♥♥ move and gets you in a war, but do it early enough the computer has little to work with and you get free workers)

Monarchy, then feudal id you want to conquer and you have many towns (cities with 6 or lower).
Then if you want everything beside military vicotry cjange to democarcy, otherwise chose fascism for their immense unit cap and lower corruption (the same as republic).
Communism is not as good as democracy if you want other type of victory than military and is not as good as fascism either. It just given you a little bit of both.
BigFishDick Nov 16, 2018 @ 4:09am
wait what make fascism work?
MadLemon Nov 17, 2018 @ 9:36pm
Fascism is for industrial revolution, if you are ahead and wanna build those railroads as a non-industrious civ (200% worker speed), while waging a war to expand. Also if you want a really big military and have many metros.

Republic is the best imo to get a tech lead an expand to other civs borders.

Communism is late game, if you like to have a world empire and have all the techs you need.
BigFishDick Nov 18, 2018 @ 5:30am
so how is corruption and pollution under facism?
Labatt Blue Nov 24, 2018 @ 7:51pm
Personally I like communism as it lets me build up my armies a bit more at the end without the corruption that I would deal with if I had fascism
BigFishDick Nov 25, 2018 @ 10:17am
I like it too since I can conquer a place super far from my captital and it still has the same productivity as a place that is closer. also I seldo build my cities for growth, always production.
BigFishDick Dec 31, 2018 @ 7:15pm
yeah, just got to late game after beating both competing empire to submission and taking all vital oil over so they can't win in an future battles and I did this under communism and I tried to switch switch to either republic or democracy in these states and honestly, money wise, I was also making less than I had under communism (not that there is much to spend money on with that gov other than upgrades and science) but I looking into production and corruption level and... jsut sorry... Communism is too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good compared to the other two. I was always get LESS shields per city, I LOST my Police State (3rd capitol) and production jsut goes the ♥♥♥♥ the further away it is from my palaces due to corruption. It's kinda insane, i went from monarchy to communism and becasue everyone talks such praise of republic and democracy I thought those governments were better than communism, but aside from speading up production via money, they have nothing that I can't get through communism. Yes, research and commerce are low under communism, but military up keep is super cheap, so money saved, money can't be used to hurry production, and isn't really needed becasue you have more sheilds and less corruption loss, so the money your DO get can all go to Science and your basically seem to research at the same rate as the other govs but through having little expenses and less to spend on. so largely there really AREN'T any draw backs to communism, its broken as ♥♥♥♥! (and you get a 3rd palace!)
