Music and Sound cutting out during diplomacy
The first few weeks of playing the game were normal, until I loaded a save file to continue playing(Note, I have loaded saves before this and it worked fine). The music and sound effects were normal, however the problem came when talking to other civs. I could still talk with them and interact normally, however there was no sound at all. The music comes back after ending the diplomacy. This suddenly happened and I want to know why and how to fix it. Thanks :steamhappy:

Put the two files in the zip in the "Conquests" folder. I've used this for a lot of older games to enable direct sound in Win 10. In this case it seems to fix a channel issue in the game under Win 10 recent update where sounds are limited to just 2 channels. Putting this in the directory allows multiple channels again so that you can hear diplo music and sound effects without them cutting out due to having no open channel to go in to.

This happened to me once. I was playing the hard copy, so I don't know if its the same problem. I still had sound, but no music. For me it was just one specific country it happened with, so I just took them over. XD

Lucky you, with me all diplomacy is soundless :(

So there's just no sound for you? Is there a loud screeching noise when diplomacy pops up?

If the noise is there, I have a way to fix it, but it's quite a lot of work.

No noise accept for an occational very loud but short beep in my left ear

Thanks, it worked. I wasn't sure I would've found an answer to my problem.

Just a bump since there's a lot of people who recently got the game for free from HumbleBundle and might have this issue.

Fixed! Tacking on another bump, because it took me a few days to find this. :steamhappy:

This worked perfectly for me as well. The mysterious crackles, pops and whistles during diplomacy had been very annoying - and much louder than the rest of the sound. My sanity has been restored. All I needed was the "dsound.dll" file. Thanks very much doctor3d for posting that link. :)

just curious if anyone who wasn't paid by the company has a real solution, since there is no such thing as a general "conquests" folder for this or the base game...so basically anyone who suggested or agreed to this is full of feces. Anyone? No? Huh...well enjoy the refund i just applied for.

No one was paid by firaxis or Sid or 4K, or whatever. These helpful people helped me with a problem and I no longer have said problem. You'd have to be either blind or idiotic to say that there is no conquests folder in civ 3, open you eyelids and look for yourself

The fix was a real solution for me and no I am not paid by the Civ3 company - although I am paid by other Game Programming companies for work on their unrelated games. Intersting how the complainant resorts to the usual profanites. What exactly is the matter with them? Perhaps he has the original version of Giv3 - did that have a Conquests folder? Perhaps it didn't, in which case why didn't he/she ask a sensible relevant question instead of adopting such a ridiculously hostile attitude? For some reason, I smell a troll.
