I agree. I love Sirlin's other physical games, but I am having a hard time committing to this when there's other titles like SFV and Tekken on available for <15 dollars...

Street fighter has been out for 3 years now, and Tekken has been out for 4. Both were $60 dollar games at release. More than that though, developers and creators have a right to be compensated for their work, and in the case of indie devs, determine what that compensation should be. That being said they do face the issue that if they put the price point too high people may not buy it.

Ultimately all I can say is that if $30 is too much, wait for a sale or simply don't buy it.
This game has twice as much as games double the price! It's VERY cheap for what you get, absolute bargain.
Sirlin  [developer] Aug 8, 2019 @ 12:37pm
We decided to go with a pretty low price. Less than Blade Strangers ($40), Fighting EX Layer ($40), Omen of Sorrow ($60), and SF5 at launch ($60) and Samurai Showdown at launch ($60). And yet with superior netcode and a bunch of innovative features, many of which are listed here: http://www.sirlin.net/posts/fantasy-strikes-features

So after 4 years of development, the level of polish involved, and that it's somehow cheaper than so many similar games with worse netcode, without dynamic frame data, without one-click challenge online, without one-click spectating of a friend match, without frame advantage visuals, without videos in the game explaining all the characters, without even the mouse working at all in the menus and so on...it's quite a bargain for this level of quality at that price. $40+ would make more sense to launch with given those competitors prices, but we decided to given an even better deal.

It may seem much, but it's worth even more.

Be brave, go beyond your comfort zone :)

To previous posters, yes I realize Tekken, SFV, etc are older titles (mind you FS had been in EA for almost 2 years before launching), but it doesn't change the fact that they can be acquired for cheaper. Mr. Sirlin, I'm a huge fan; Yomi v1 was outstanding. I hope your game is a success (Please release Gwen...) but with the current glut of fighting games, it's difficult to support a player base especially for an indie game such as this. Even in the days following Evo, FS has 14 current players on Steamcharts.com. I know this isn't the entire playerbase, but it is quite telling. I will buy the hell out of this game during a good sale, but unfortunately I have to weigh options based on my current budget. I hope you don't take offense to this or my prior post. Best wishes.

Okay. For comparison, the power rangers game was $20 on launch and barely even functioned. Fewer characters, half the features.

If anything $30 is not a high enough price.

I'm not saying this is a bad game or anything, but 30 dollars for 11 characters with a player base of 14 people isn't too great. I agree that Tekken/SFV/FightingEX didn't have as many features as this game at launch or even now, but it's not what I'm looking for in a fighting game. It's how deep the fighting game is, how many people play it and how many characters are there in it. I'd buy this game, but for like 20 dollars on my switch.

FS has a much bigger playerbase. Steamcharts only show PC players being in-game at the given moment, while PC players currently not in-game, Switch and PS4 players also have to be taken into account.

Is it though? Look at other top fighters being double the price for less content then they've previously put out

You're honestly better off picking it up for 30 here or on PS4, and I hate to say that because it's not even the fault of the devs. In fact the game runs awesome whether you're docked or not and I haven't had any issues with bugs at all. The problem is the Switch has no way to go wired without buying third party attachments and a crappy wifi antenna. The netcode in Fantasy Strike is great, but when you're dealing with the smallest pool of players you need every bit of stability you can get.

Steam is really the ideal, since you can play with the entire playerbase of FS.

The PC version has crossplay with Switch and PS4 which Steamcharts can't see. Crossplay also adds value to the game IMO.

I mean, you get 2 hours of play time within 14 days of purchasing the game to determine if the game is worth it for not, and if you feel that it's still not worth the purchase price you can refund it. Rather than just complaining about how you think the game costs too much, why not try it and find out for yourself? What have you got to lose?

Personally I've gotten far more enjoyment out of this game than quite a few that I've spent several times more on. Plus, the community over on the Discord server is fantastic.

Problem is, all that technical marvel is invisible to the average player. And the game isn't exactly a looker, so yeah... Literally doesn't look like a good deal.
In terms of playerbase, forget whatever steamcharts says, the REAL experience I have, every time I play Fantasy Strike, is that I get matched more quickly than I do on SFV, and almost always get a better connection too (mostly due to far better netcode).
