Need help
So as the kid I am, I have had a hard time landing on the moon, rather overshooting or crash landing into the moon and I need some help because there are around no videos on Youtube to help me at all.

put a velocity meter and just gues the distance in the midle of both cut power and start slowwing down when landing use the velocity meter to go 1000-2000m/s you can slow down after that
When I made it to the moon (being very careful) I reached 5000-6000 m/s before I hit the reverse thrusters. Remember to accelerate for the first half and decelerate for the second half.
What I find works is having thrusters pointed up and down on your ship. I'm sure you have some way of using the RCS to keep your ship level. Once you get close enough that the moon shows on the radar instead of the earth, try to level yourself yourself out with the moon below you. Use the thrusters pointed down to blast yourself towards the moon's surface. After a little bit, your movement will only be directly down towards the moon. Unfortunately, you'll still be going pretty fast.

Once your movement is straight down like this, use the thrusters pointed up at full strength until your speed is under maybe 20? Depends on how high you are at that point, and how quickly your thrusters can slow you down. My current ship going to the moon I let fall at about 200 until I get to only a few thousand meters up, then I slow to 20.

You'll want it to be under 4 when you land. You'll really just have to play that by ear. There's a really good post out there about using a velocimeter and a remapper to create a hover mode with your thrusters. I have that setup, but it only triggers if my speed is over 4, so the ship will slowly land itself, but that requires some patience and can certainly be optimized. I just keep blowing my component budgets on trying to automate different parts of the flight.

What speed numbers are these? 20 is incredibly slow. Are you missing a zero or 2 or 3?
Thanks to all who responded, I almost made it but Im still struggling, trying to figure things out with my ship and stuff with newer designs
My trick was to just aim above the moon and slightly overshoot it. This way instead of crashing into it I just entered a low orbit (after a few tries).

I set the 20 while doing the power plant job, to ensure there was always plenty of recovery time even if I cut out for a while. Then I figure, why change it? I still finished Fred's quest with like 80% power remaining, so the power is there as long as my patience is, and it saved my butt when first exploring eelworld, because my way of combining the input had me hitting the water too fast. That's been fixed, but still, hardly a costly solution. And if, like OP you're crashing, best to err on the side of caution, yeah?

That's not to say I always spend 15 minutes landing. That's just when/where I stop accelerating toward the ground and take control. Staying a few km up is a good height for avoiding mountains if you need to travel, but still able to land quick enough.

Play around with individual components to see how they work. Almost everything can be controlled with a single axis lever, so even the controls are something you can experiment and grow into.

Try recreating bits of the tutorial ship for practice building things you know work, and then you can use your own experimenting to perhaps find better or cooler ways.
