Little King's Story was a great game for the Wii, and probably one of the best.
The game is practically a mix of Pikmin, Animal Crossing, and some other RPG-like elements.
If you enjoyed anything Pikmin related, you will most likely enjoy Little King's Story

I had previously given this game a thumbs down and a negative review before this date due to the many bugs, glitches and frame rate issues the port had. However! With the recent (and long awaited) major update, I can finally say that this game is worth purchasing and playing now!

Just adding the recent chorus that say this game is in a much better state than previously reported. Instead of abandoning the port XSEED/Marvelous decided to take action and should be commended for their efforts.

Special thanks to Durante who has once again cleaned and polished another port from mediocre to sublime.

I wish I could say other Publishers/Devs learnt some lessons here.

Thanks to the recent update, this game should have no performance issues even on the lowest specs. There are a few bugs here and there, as well as a few animations not being up to speed, but with the new help that the developers have been getting, I'd say buying the game is well worth the $15 on sale til the 10th of Feb 2017. Especially for it's nostalgia factor.

Remember to report any bugs you do find so that the game can be polished properly.

Good game, bad port.

As much as I'd love to relive LKS on PC, the port makes that much more difficult that it needs to be. Although some patches were released three years ago to fix some performance issues, the game is still riddled with bugs and instability. For example, one boss is infamously difficult in this port because of a bug that prevents you from entering caves. Did nobody playtest this before selling it?!

The crashes are the worst, though. The game could crash at practically any time, but especially during boss battles. You will probably have to beat a boss several times just because the game has a 75% chance of crashing on beating them. That's just how bad this port is.

If you own a Wii, I definitely recommend pick up a physical copy of this gem. The port is frustrating to the point of ruining the experience.

Any issues with the port are now gone, and what a wonderful thing it is. The Little King's Story is very much like Pikmin in style and controls, but it has a cheerful fantasy element to it as well. While it may be a little slow at start, once you unlock the main classes for your minions and expand the map, it's a great game that deserves all the attention it deserves. Which is a lot, I tell you!

Little King's Story is a rather unfortunate case of fantastic game/bad port.

I don't have the best computer (Dual Core Skylake processor running at 3.4 ghz and a Nvidia Geforce 950) but there is no reason a Wii game should run this poorly. Frame drops and freezes are common, even on the 30 fps setting, and the whole game runs sluggish in general. I love the game however and I will defend it to the end. LKS has a amazing blend of pikmin and animal crossing gameplay with the sort of humor you would find in The Phantom Tollbooth or Earthbound. Such a mix is why I recommend it. Pick it up on sale or buy the Wii version, either way is worth your time.

Finally, LKS gets the port that it has deserved for so long. With improved functionality and fixed framerate, there is almost no reason not to add this legendary game to your library!

Edit: This was a review of the original release of the game. Months afterwards, the game was patched in a way that reportedly fixed many of my complaints. I have not purchased or played the game since then, so I cannot amend my intial review. While I'm glad that the developers may have fixed the problems that I and others pointed out regarding the intial release, I think it's shameful that the game was released in such a state regardless.

Original Review: Great game, terrible port. Loved the game on Wii, played it nearly to completion (I did not find the final boss battle to be particularly fun). The frame rate is poor, even on a pretty hefty computer, and it lags seemingly at random. Even when things are running smoothly, the game feels sluggish, like its been dipped in molasses. My memories of playing the game six or seven years ago on the Wii might be rosy-colored, but I certainly don't remember it being such a technical failure. Hopefully these issues are corrected quickly, but frankly, this sort of shoddiness should be considered unacceptable.

If this was on the Nintendo Wii, yes... I would recommend this game. But on Steam? Definitely not. Please, do not waste your money. When they ported this game to Steam a lottt of bugs came with it... and the developers have given up on it after a few patches.

To name a few issues:

• The game will crash after bosses resulting in a loss of progress.
  
• The game will have audio issues, where you need to open and close the game continuously until it eventually works.
  
• The game is barely controller supported... Occasionally, the game won't process the controller that is plugged in, so you need to exit and re-launch the game until it works. And sometimes the buttons will decide to switch around upon launch, and your character is always trying to move slowly to the left.
  
• Some game-breaking bugs will not allow you to do boss mechanics, 3 that I can think of, results in inevitable death of you and your villagers. Examples are as follows
  TV boss: Images won't show on the TV so you have to guess the answer.
  Egg boss: Some questions don't show up/Audio won't play, so again you have to guess the answer.
  Long Sauvage: Can't enter the mountain to avoid swinging hair, inevitable damage and death of you and your team.
  
• Insufferable lag whenever the kingdom has a foggy day (It's not my PC)
  
  Bare in mind these are not all the issues, just the one's that stand out to me. I feel really really bad giving a negative review for a game that is so nostalgic to me, but this port has tainted my pre-existing image of the game.

Another great game flounders due to an utterly terrible port.

Little King's Story is a port of the Wii version of the title (not the PSP version that removed the charming look of the game) where you control a boy who's found a magical crown that makes him King of a poor, run down kingdom. It's your job to build up your empire and dominate the world (according to your Military Advisor, Howser). The game borrows heavily from Pikmin, and I'd liken it more to Overlord, but overall it's really great, you're rewarded for thinking before acting and watching your kingdom grow is really cool. The difficulty is just right, though, you can find yourself in a world of hurt at times, especially if you have the wrong team.

Sadly, the game has some serious issues due to a bad port. My first issue, before the game even booted was it's option screen, which was laggy. Yes, the menu where I set the settings for the game has issues with response time. Also, on this menu you have two options for frame limits, 30 and 60 FPS. At least we have the option for 60 right? Wrong, next to the option it says "Not Recommended," the reason is the game ties certain things to the frame rate and since the original game was only 30FPS, you'll see graphical and gameplay issues. I've also had the game crash on me and some graphical effects in the game are really out of whack. Another major offender is the game uses 8-way direction only, even if you're using an Xinput pad with a stick, this sucks a lot. The camera control is just plain awful, though this might be an issue with the Steam Controller more than anything, but I've never had issues before.

I only recommend the game because it's really damn solid and I have hope that they'll sort all of the issues it has down the line sooner or later, but these things will break the experience for most especially coming from with a high tolerance for bullsh*t.

If you ever die on a save file then press do not continue then try and go back to the last checkpoint in that save it softlocks all save files, no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clue why people are saying they fixed this ♥♥♥♥ when its clearly not fixed, just emulate
