I think civ 1 is to old...at max civ 2....
Civ II Gold Edition is 32 bit, should just install and work with some tweaking.
The biggest problem with REALLY old games, is that they are either for DOS or 16 bit. 64bit Operating Systems are not backwards compatible with 16 bit, only 32, so they won't work at all. If you don't need a GPU; DOSBOX or running Windows 98 in a VM would work.
Anything built for 32bit Windows NT (2000 or newer) should work fine though. You might need to find a third party patch, but I know Warcraft II Battle.net edition and Starcraft have both been patched somewhat recently.

You can THINK what you want. No-one is forcing you to play it, so it's none of your business. How about you stop making conflicts, quarrelling against what other people say they want, because IT DOES NOT HURT YOU IF THE GAME IS MADE AVAILABLE.
o.O
maybe I didn't make you undestand my point, but I found your reaction a little crazy.
Do you feel well? Have you removed me from your friend list for this thread?
I was only saying my opinion, if this hurt you, the Problem is on your side.
After all, is you the one that are making conflicts with your answer.
To make you undestand better:
1 - Is a fact that on steam yuo can play civ 3, so I do not undestand what wrong with this.
2- My opinion is that Civ 1 graphic and game play are to old for today, so this is my opinion.
3- This is a pubblic post in the general discussion area, so a place where people talk, so, do you have problem with it? Can people think different from you?
4- Yes, I can think as I want, no one is forcing me,
No, is my buisness to post where I want, I was not quarreling with no one and is you that are making conflicts, you are in fact yelling at me to.
5- Relax your self
