TEKKEN 7

Tekken franchise will never return to its roots
After trying t7 again it's became obvious to me.
Playing t7 after t8 is a big step out of a comfort zone. Was fujin in t8 s1 and cannot pass through mentor rank here which I like actually. It's like returning from delusion to reality where you need to know many things to win matches.
But at the same time it makes my head heavy from realization of how many hours I need to spend on learning to get good.

So I don't think this series will be going in the competitive direction it was before with so many casuals on the board. There are higher chances that Tekken just will die instead.

Just my opinion after few nights in t7 as a casual player myself.

Yeah I've been saying that for a long time now.
Tekken 8 gives the illusion of being good and if tekken ever becomes tekken again, tekken 8 players will get a huge reality check. And most of them are not going to like it.
You are right on needing a lot more to get good and fundamentals WIN in this tekken. And it is good if you even manage to find players and continue playing for thousands of hours, you will become a good TEKKEN player. But eh about ranked itself at the moment it's more so because you are not alone, the ones you fight are also returning players like you are, or those who started with mashen 8 and went to 7, or even clown smurfs that always existed, they not really beginners most of them...
Now is the skill ceiling far lower in tekken 8? yes, way lower than 7, also way more ranks here. Also there is no infinite rematching in 8 and you don't fight more than a ft2, meaning you can easily get randomed out by heat nonsense, one heat engager and you die, chip damage and health recovery means you can get robbed way too easily. Here this is real tekken, the only reason you might get cheesed is only by some gimmicks of characters but someone with good knowledge of matchup will easily destroy any character. Yesterday at ruler ranks I fought a great dragunov (literally his name was just DRAGUNOV) total gigachad, we did 103 matches in ranked lmao, I won like most of them but in the end it was one of the best times Ive ever had and I improved accidentally mid fight when I learned first time how to do good wall extended combos, and I also helped him duck strings of my character in the meantime. Doesn't matter if he demoted, we both improved. That was the point of ranked, the big journey, that sadly in tekken 8 it is almost non existent. Now the new ranked system in tekken 8 season 2 is great but sadly the mechanics are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 50/50 focused and unfair.
My friend had a similar experience when I got him to start playing T7. We both play Lee. I'm a TG and he's a TE in 8. He is ridiculously good at being unpredictable and converting combos into big damage in t8.

Our first matches it took him a bit to adjust to the differences of T7. Once he became better acclimated, the games got more competitive. After we finished the session, he told me he wasn't a big fan of T7's play-style. He was annoyed with the KBDing and how rigid the characters moved. I understood it since T8 is his first serious tekken game.

Now that I'm back to strictly playing T7, I do see flaws. However, I'm willing to overlook them because matches usually feel player-driven. Sure some characters in this game are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but at least I'm not just getting assaulted and restricted by hyper-aggressive and restriction of movement.
