Will I enjoy this if I enjoyed guilty gear strive, skullgirls, etc.
Also which fighting games are most comparable to this one?

That's very hard to say but it's the most popular fighter on Steam. I would say that Dead or Alive is comparable but far from equal.

No, completely different.

Side step, side walk, rage drive, it's not 1 to 1 but can you think of a closer comparason?

Probably. I don't own guilty gear and I used to have skullgirls but I didn't play very much of it. If I can recall, both of those games are really combo heavy. In Tekken, you will definitely have moments where you will launch your opponent in the air and do combos. As well as doing wall combos when your opponents get hit toward a wall. Some stages also have floor/wall breaks that will extend your combos too.

As to which games are comparable to tekken, there's soul calibur which is created by the same company that made tekken and the dead or alive series. There's also virtua fighter 5 ultimate showdown and the UFC games but they are both available only for consoles unfortunately. King of FIghters, from what I was told, is similar to tekken in terms of speed but in the perspective of 2d.

Virtua Fighter still the best beat em' up created. Still waiting on pc release :/

Tekken is completely different to the games you mentioned.
The movement in 3d, the huge movesets & the large character roster give it a steeper learning curve too.

That being said, as someone who jumped across from sf4 after the awful launch of sf5, it's now my favourite fighting game. I'd say it's worth picking up if you go in knowing you'll need to invest some time in learning it (including watching guides on YouTube for even basic movements).

There's technically a PC release but it's the old version (VF5 FINAL showdown) and is available as a mini game in either Yakuza 6/ Like a dragon or Judgement.

Yeah I know about that one. Do you know if you can use a stick playing on it though?

You can try on Dead Or Alive 5 Last Round or 6.
Both have free version (Core Fighters: included 4 playable characters).

Sorry, I'm not sure.

Yes you can, but that version of the game is only offline. I'd suggest to wait for VF5US on Steam if it happens one day.

DoA6 has mentionned is the closest from Tekken 7, but it not as good. As for your experience in fighting games, 2d fg experience is really different from 3d ones, so you can't just rely on that to know if you'll like it.
However you're not making any mistake choosing Tekken 7, this is hands down the most popular fighting game on Steam since its launch, Objectively I'd say this is the best one, even if it's not my favorite one.

Here are some charts from the most popular fighting games over the last 12 month that will give you an idea on Tekken 7 popularity.

Nice.

And at least as of June 20/21 ish this steam chart has tekken at the top too of big name serious fighters - 24 peak at 6K plus. XD

Ggs

That chart is in real time, and even on slow days, it's ahead of SFV, MK11, and GGear.
Why? Cause even after 5 years, it's a good game, problems and all.

For people who picked up the game on sale, enjoy it like chess. Don't try to get good at it or worry about losses. Just learn slowly and make it a hobby, if you like it. It's a deep game and is not for mashing.

I mash. I'm a scrub still. So there's your proof. Don't mash. Have fun. XD

Thanks. My agglomerated charts are from https://steamcharts.com/app/389730, I'm more focused on monthly charts in order to get an overview of the games rather than peaks, because sometimes a game pick very high because of a DLC and drops down quickly.

I also have some google Sheet charts agglomerating every fighting games I could find on Steam (86 fighting games) showing in real time current player number and their last 30 day avg charts. I can share the link but unfortunately Steam considers it recently as a malicious link, maybe because of importxml() links inside.

Awesome. Might pick it up then once it's on sale. Even if it's SP only, will still be worth it.

it takes you 500h to make it fun

This. Facts.

Casual does not matter, imo. After enough hours the game just gets interesting.
If one is too impatient or has LOTS of other hobbies then I'd ask anyone: 'Who would want to put in that kind of time?'. But if this game is gonna be your thing (your digital hobby), in games, then go for it.

Tekken's a masterpiece in my book, but that's just me.
Enjoy if you have the time to sink into it.
yea, but take breaks, for sanity. lmao XD
