I still havent buy any dlc... th3y are completely optional.
I'd say that if you can get the base game for such a cheap price it would really be worth it. If you want the DLC you can always get it later and wait for a sale (that's what I did when I bought the game all the way back last year. However, now there's another Season Pass O_o) but yeah, I'd go for the base at that price. It takes a while to adjust and really get into things so DLC isn't really necessary unless you want to play one of the DLC characters specifically
otherwise the SP content in tekken i pretty bare. tho for 10 dollars its not bad at all.
you can live without the dlc characters. but having them is a powerfull tool to going into practise mode to learn how to counter their spesific strings
if you want to get into the online modes casually, and learn tekken the base game is more then enough.
if you want to be a pure casual and mostly just play offline modes, the game is alright and a decent amount of content for 10 dollars but can feel kinda lacking compared to the single player exp. from other games.
if you want to be a hardcore player, then the DLC is not a must but will save you hours of fustration as you can pinpoint moves that you have a hard time with and practise them.
you could live without it, but its simply very usefull for practise mode.
tekken is a mechanic rich game where people easily spend over 50 hours in practise mode, learning about their character, other characters, and advanced mechancis in general.
the game its self is a learning excersise to get better, always something you could learn or improve to get better. if reading and watching tutorials and getting involved with the game beyond playing vs. modes does not intrest you then i feel you might be better off just skipping this game.
there are select story mode pannels {like 2 rounds with certan character pairs, with cutscene ending's}
and a fleshed out story mode with some input asists [personaly i thought it was just 'ok' the story feels kinda weird and meshed together]
and tresure battle- and endless vs. cpu ladder climb offline mode - you rank up for winning and get cosmetics as rewards. there are some varients like double damage battles, or super fast battles that occur randomly during this mode.
on the flipside, the practise mode is fantastic. really easy to setup all the possible varibles to play out a situation, over and over and over till you figure out how to beat a certan move.
X player does a certan string- get it on loop in practice mode; can i block it, low parry it, sidestep it, jab them out of it, back dash and launch wiff punish??? the mode gives you so much tools to get better at the game
Tekken 7 differs quite a bit to other games in the series in terms of Single Player content. The Story Mode goes a cinematic direction, kinda like Mortal Kombat or Injustice. It's linear and follows the main characters centered around the Mishima Zaibatsu; 'prolly just takes around 4-6 hours to complete depending how good you are (Akuma is really difficult D:).
Treasure Mode is basically Ghost Mode and Survival combined, with the twist of special battles (there are bosses like Devil Kazumi, Jin, Heihachi and Kazuya) as well as Double Speed, Double Damage and Jiggle Damage Only battles. You play random opponents which progressively get more difficult (although the CPU difficulty is way easier compared to TTT2; you can only change the difficulty for Story Mode, not Treasure Mode or Arcade). You get chests which can contain monies or costume pieces, there are different rarities of chests too.
Arcade Mode is shorter than TTT2 and there's no ending cutscene (it's kinda a useless mode). There are Character Stories with cutscenes (DLC characters don't get their own Character Stories). Basically how they play out is, you have a text prologue, 1 battle, then a cutscene. It's kinda lame in comparison to Tekken 5 where the characters had a prologue, 8 battles, a midstory cutscene and an ending cutscene.
The Practice Mode is one of the best I've seen in a fighting game though. It's really good so much configuration. Pity there's no Frame Data or tutorial though.
Although dont expect as much single player content as IJ2 offers. Unless you find training and improving yourself gratifying even without testing it against living opponents.
If you like self improvement and muliplayer Tekken 7 is great. Especially if you can get it for 10$.
DLC's are optional. Some peoples find it tragic that you cannot labo dlc characters but if you are new to Tekken or skipped last Tekkens you will have alot of things to learn and even if you love to labo obessively you will have 39 labrats to test before you will feel few dlc rats missing. Also there are youtube videos so only competitive players can truely feel lack od dlc characters for labo without buy.
When it comes to season pass 1 you can save money by purchasing characters separately. You dont need Tekken bowl and special costumes to become better player.
season pass is more expansive but will feature much more characters so its price:value ratio is better. So overally dlcless Tekken 7 is very good deal and only competitive players need dlc for in very depth labo (and those who want to main dlc characters ofc. If Yoshimitsu were dlc character I personally would have to buy him because I main Yoshimitsu every Tekken I play. and I started playing Tekken in T3 times.).
I feel like I'm watering down my post. Last thing alot of steam sales is in close future so if you will feel need for particular dlc there are good chances it will be on sale soon.
