Also don't forget his 3 hit string that deals high damage(starts with a headbutt into spin backfist and then punch).
Add some low hits to the mix also.
Also the enemy always gets like a 15 hit combo on, I only know a 5 hit combo. Another issue is that I constantly get launched, while if I get lucky I can get 1 launch in the whole match
It very rare in this game that one can just jump online and do well thats why practice is so important in Tekken. Don't get discouraged stick with it and you will see your self gradually get better, thats is with some dedication ;)
you are new at the game so it will take some time to get the hang of any characters movelist...
but give your self some time in practise mode to get the hang of a few basics... things like
basic poke comobs - they are usually something like 1-1 / 2-2 / 2-1 / 2-2-1
what attacks happen when you are in while riseing state (when you are comming up from a crouch but are not fully standing yet your attacks are not the same as when you are standing
don't worry about the 10 hit combos at the end of the movelist, these should be used sparingly, if at all...
look up online something like 'top 15 moves for each character in tekken7' check out the ones for bob, it will give you a good understanding of what hes good at.
you don't need to have frame data memorized, but think of it this way
attacks have like 3 phases,
first phase is when the attack is just starting and it does not do dammage, like the begining of a kick
the second phase is the attack its self, some attacks have a longer attack phase, in that the attack does dammage for longer... like a slide kick will start being an attack pretty early on, then proceed to be an attack for most of the slide.
the third phase is the recovery, its how long it takes for the attack to finish, so you can do something else, typicaly blocking.
as a new player you have to understand that certan moves are more risky and ither have a really slow start up or a really slow recovery - ither of these can be intereupted with fast moves, or even with a meduim speed move[a launcher]
getting hit befor the start of a slow attack will pretty much stop you in your tracks, and having some one block a move with slow recovery will open you up to eating hits.
when attacking you want to use some of your fast attacks as pokes, typicaly some of your punch strings like 1,2,1 or something like that. and kinda get a feel for the rythem of your oppenent.
throwing out something risky when you think it could land...
back dashing to make your oppenent miss a risky attack then going in with a quick attack to punish the attack.
not alot of people have good matchup knowlage for bob
Just work on memorizing the top 15 moves of your character (just Google tekken top 15 moves), an easy juggle or two, and a quick block punish. The block punish is the big thing, because lower level players spam a lot of random strings, and many of them are unsafe. use a safe 10f or 12f punish whenever you block a string, you'll get a lot of mileage and players that are used to mashing will fall apart. Even if a string you blocked is safe, this will keep them from pressuring you
A whiff punish with good range is also really useful, since people at lower levels will miss their moves a lot, and that's free damage if you can capitalize on it. If you can backdash, make a move whiff, and then whiff ones that move, your already better than a majority of the players at that level
Knowing frame traps will easily get you to green ranks.
Be patient too.
As others said, it might be a little daunting if you are new to Tekken.
The unfortunate thing is that you started playing at a time when most newbies have already given up. A lot of the players you stumble upon will be decent. And a certain number of them will be advanced players. I can see how you might feel hopeless.
But try to endure. Once you get the hang of Tekken, it will be fun and enjoyable. If I were you, I'd try to find friends to roll some local couch multiplayer. You can motivate each other and have a good time in the process.
to start just work on properly using 4 moves:
1) jab (as a 'get off me' move when you are blocking them)
2) a 'keepout' move that you will use at a range where you think they will rush in
3) a long range move for you to get in with
4) a 3 hit string that will get you damage against mashers
these things are obviously not foolproof but you have to start extremely simple and work on understanding basic offensive and defensive principles as well as general game flow. add in layers a little at a time. fighting games are worth it, good luck!
Knowledge is power. No matter who you pick, you wont go anywhere if you dont practice.
