Katarina Alves does NOT do Savate
Okay, I know this is kinda stupid... but as a lifelong Savateur I was totally excited about finally getting a character that reflected my own martial art.

Yeah, still waiting on that one.

The problem isn't just that Tekken is of course rather unrealistic in its depiction of martial arts, I mean come-on, we all knew that already. The problem is when they basically don't get the art right almost AT ALL.

I mean, sure, some of her kicks, specifically the Fouete (round kick), are decent in terms of actual Savate... but that's about where it ends. Whoever designed her evidently never even looked up enough of the style to realize that 50% of it is BOXING. Katarina does NOT box. Heck, as I've gotten older, most of my own Savate is really just boxing with enough kicks thrown in to exploit openings. This isn't even that uncommon as one of the more unique aspects of Savate is its boxing lineage that more closely resembles Pugilism (boxing's precursor) than modern sport boxing.

If we are getting technical, I would have also been okay with her using something like the Marseille variation (with a lot of street fighting stuff thrown in,) or the old Paris one (which had NO high kicks at all) or even the oldest variant that the sailors did where everytime you kicked you had to either hold onto something or touch the ground with one outstretched hand. Those all would have been cool! ...but no, instead what we get is some stupid dancy, slappy, weirdo kung fu that pretty much just shows off a beautiful Brazillian girl to best effect.

(Which, I mean, hey, I like eye candy as much as the next fella, but come on!)

I know, I know, it's not exactly the most relevant critique of the game or anything... but it bugs me.

Majority of female video game characters don't even look their part. They are eye candy. At least, they aren't sold as brazenly here compared to some games like DoA, LoL...

Yeah as far as "looking the part" it would have been cool to have an actual savate uniform of some sort as well... but honestly I never even expected that (the temptation for eye-candy females is just too strong in fighting games really.)

there are some characters that martial art description doesn't fit, like bryan as kickboxer, I've never seen a kickboxer doing any bryan moves, only the spinning back fist and some knees, maybe that's why was described as a kickboxer and dragunov as a combat sambo, Im not a sambo practitioner, but Im not sure is not even close to those weird moves dragunov does

Like Katarina's fighting stance. Wtf is this? one hand on her waist? how does she defend?
This said it all.

I haven't seen katarina's move list, but maybe as a sign pf disrespect? like when a fighter drops his hands, or put them behind his back (macgregor)

Try Gigas, he is Katarina's father who taught her Savate.. and Gigas has punches and kicks. Since he borrows moves from Marduk, Val Tudo MMA style is similar, Gigas is basically a large person doing Savate.

These are taunts, not a fighting posture.

I did savate when i was young and i haven't seen a single savate move in this game. Savate is basically Kick boxing with specific techniques with shoes. You use the tip of your shoes for fast, precise hits and traditional boxing techniques . you don't bounce on the screen kicking the air lol.
The most "realistic" styles in game are bryan, (kickboxing, thay), fakuhram(thay) and Steve(boxe).
Most of the new characters just doesnt use actual martial arts. It sucks I know

are you serious? I've practice some kickboxing, and what bryan does is not kickboxing aside from some knees and elbows where have you seen kickboxers doing what bryan does?

Well, Tekken chars in general reflect martial arts moves but they added non-realistic ones coz this is a game. For example, Asuka as an Aikido practitioner has Irimi Nage as one of her throws. But she also has cartwheel and back flip I mean lol why she has those moves.
obviously otherwise they called this game MMA fantasy game lol.
