Am I considered a bad player if I rely on snake edge to win?
Like every match I use snake edge. That includes using snake edge when my opponent is in minus.

I take it snake edge's main purpose is to catch opponent by surprise, init? So what if I always catch my opponent with this cheesy move every single time?

If you win that just means your opponent is worse :winter2019joyfultearsyul:
you dont seem to be a bad player. but if you flowchart then yes

I dunno, use it if it works i guess? I wouldn't expect it to be a viable strategy in the long term though. Sooner or later people will start blocking it.

Snake edge is pretty easy to block when you become aware of what's happening. You're not a bad player doing it, but it will be a bad habit for you to abuse it. You'll experience some plateau effect sooner or later with Bryan when opponents will start to block. The risk/reward for this move is not in your favor. You should do hatchet kick for example instead, and follow up with soccer kick on counter hit. The reward is less important than on a snake edge, but the risk is reaaally minimized, since you'll have a lot of pushback on block to be safe.

The risk/reward is horrible on snake edge. (except panda and anna snake edge - those can actually be used as a surprise weapon even again good players - not on everyone though)

When it works you can keep using it of course but you are going to create a bad habit that you are going to have to un-learn in future if you start facing good opposition.

And I have horrible experience with getting rid of bad habits as I coach beginners. For example doing Lars' df2,1 or Noctis' b1,2 randomly in neutral is suicide (duckable on reaction). No matter I launch them over and over for free so they are basically playing already at HP disadvantage and losing just because of that. No matter I tell them over and over not to do that - no matter they actually agree with me and saying they are going to stop using that - they still do it. Its muscle memory and it sucks to get rid of a move you are just used to using at certain moments.

I just played a little exhibition match and my opponent was killing himself with duckable mid highs but it was very hard for him to stop using that because of muscle memory (for example 20:13). And you can see it put him in a very hard position.

EDIT: Now I realize I have shown you the match already - no matter its a good example in this case.

It is a bad habit that will have you plateau very, very hard once you face solid players. Offline and on good connections, you really should not rely on it.

I watched that match of yours, very good example of fundamentally solid gameplay. Thumbs up.

I just want to clarify, Im beginning to unlearn snake edge, but as of moment I still do it at least once per match during ranked matches. For player session, I do snake edge for fun or to get even with my opponent who like to snake edge while Im on minus. And speaking of it, it's hard for me to react when the snake edge is coming right after they blocked my attacks. What is the workaround against player who like to catch u at minus? (Basically the gameplay revolves waiting for you to be on minus then attack) and snake edge is the main dish :D

Thanks for the input.

There is no workaround. You gotta have that move on mind and duck on reaction when you see it.

Of course if you are doing a jabs or another high it goes under it so in so careful about that.

Take it into practice - with asuka record for example ff1 into snake edge - second recording ff1 into db1,2 third recording ff1 into f2 and fourth recording ff1 into db3.

And put them all on random and react properly (launch punish snake edge, duck second hit on db1,2 and launch punish; launch punish the f2 (df2 or f2) and ws2,1 the db3) all correct punishes.

just go for a while - sharpen yourself. The recording is GOLDEN for this. This is the exact way I practice for my matches. Then when you see the string in match you sometimes automatically go ducking - its muscle memory.

Nah. Your opponent is just bad if they keep hitting you. Still, i personally wouldnt use it if your goal is to git gud, cause once a bad habit starts its hard to get it away.

Yeah thanks. Im struggling tbh coz I reached purple with this bad habit. But still not too late, maybe? Im tempted to use that move especially during promo match and my opponent is not blocking it.

Please tell me how to get rid of this temptation?

Oops, typo. I meant to say they are bad if YOU keep hitting THEM with it.

How to resist the temptation? Go and find a player that is better than you and spam snake edge against them. You will unlearn this habit fast.

If you keep hitting it... Well, then there really is no reason to get rid of it!

It is the best advice.

If you can find another Asuka player like yourself (not necessarily playing her against you), it is the best as this can reveal any little weakness that your character has.
Be it Snake Edge, ducking Can-Can, always punishing b+3 and etc...

I was lucky enough to having a friend who "mained" my main, before he switched to another character.
Now when we are playing, because he knows every unsafe moves or duckable string, I got hit hard for not using it carefully, so it taught me a valuable lesson, and only this helped me to improve a lot.
