EDIT: I'm not sure about this yet, but it might be that you can't reverse elbow and knee strikes. Still practicing. Right now for me it works best when I'm expecting my opponent to jab and cross (1, 2).
It works against middle attacks, definitely. Just not on elbow or knee strikes as far as I know, but there may be exceptions. I can't parry Paul's b+3 with Paul for example, no matter how often I try.
Good set up would be doing it after some moves that has plus frames, like f,F+4 and f+1+2.
Sound advice, I'm going to try this out more often.
