MK11 is very polished, not to mention popular.
FYI Tekken does have a higher skill ceiling, and takes more hours to get as good at.
But MK is 2d and Tekken is 3d. So they are fundamentally different.
Though the new MK is just as deep on combos as Tekken is now, it's missing dodging in 3d...
And Ultimate edition is like a year old, S3 a few days. The only reason there is an S3 is because Ultimate sold well.
MK11 combat style is based around mixing combos with specials/abilities. Ex: Baraka combo + amplified Chop Chop (you can amplify it twice). Combo + Leg Kabob etc.
Tekken 7 is more "traditional" with combos. No specials, unless it`s a 2D character, but that`s a different story.
MK11 in comparison to previous NRS games improved escape mechanics a lot. Juggles now are not as "brandead" as before. You actually have to learn what is timing and dash fast to start juggle.
Tekken 7 introduced Rage mechanics, but overall it`s still same Tekken. All good and bad features still here.
My personal view of those two games are next.
MK11:
Good things.
+ Breakaway. Escape from juggle mechanic.
+ Rolls.
+ Getup attacks.
+ More memorable characters.
+ Realistic character design aka no feminine anime dudes.
+ No joke characters like Chloe, Alisa and Bears. (Joker can change this)
+ Finishers.
+ A lot better intros before battles and no annoying repetitive quotes in battles. Chloe, Negan etc.
+ Best customization in fighting games. 3 gear slots. It can be weapon, mask etc.
+ Decent story mode and best single player in fighting games (Towers of Times).
+ Kombat Leagues will reward you with skins, gear, finishers and more.
Bad things.
- Lack of combos. Less than in MKX.
- Projectiles. Not for everyone taste. They are usually fast, strong and mids. Blocking can kill you if you are a turtle and it can kill you if you are not careful enough. Ducking won`t help in most cases. Many characters have low or air projectiles by default or as custom ability. You can be shot from all levels =). You will hear about "spamming" sooner or later.
- Abilities like teleports with instant attacks, projectile reflection, kick/punch from half screen away.
- NRS style balance. Some characters have decent ground projectiles, air grabs/projectiles, parries and overall strong close combat style, while others have only one of this things. At least in MKX everyone felt like Rushdown + special mix. Kano had grappler variation, but he was decent close combat fighter too. He`s a lot worse "fighter" now in MK11.
- Fatalities in Ranked/KL after each set. Kombat League has 3 sets. Each set is one match/3 rounds. Imagine watching same Fatalities for 1000000 time. Not as common in my region these days as before, but still.
- Low quality online. Many of my matches lagged for reasons not related to my PC. Some say that there are lag-switchers. Hard to tell because it`s a common situation when ping was 100 or below before match started and then it jumped to 200 or higher in match. Flashing connection icon. Many Wi-fi players. Many players with bad PC`s. Even when you can see low fps bar, you still can`t decline match in many cases.
I think i mentioned all important things. Game is good in single player, but overall game can be annoying because of projectiles, teleports and "guess game". By guess game i mean things like Sub-Zero slide (it`s fast, low and can hit from half screen away.) or Scorpion teleport (it can be amplified or not and so you have to guess when to punish him).
Tekken 7:
Good things.
+ Combat. Reason why this game is still alive. I haven`t seen a character yet that is weak in close combat. I mean the game is all about close combat.
+ Color palette in customization.
+ Online is good. I only accept matches with 4 bars of higher and i don`t remember any lags, input problems or anything else.
+ Throws are not as bad as in MK11. You can counter them here easy enough and no one is using throws (i`m not talking about grapplers) whole match. MK11 made it harder to escape throws/grabs in comparison to MKX.
Bad things.
- Stupid juggles. Stupid not only because this is outdated and annoying feature, but because unlike MK11, in Tekken 7 juggles are long and simple. Once you are "in", you can`t escape as far as i know. Even when your character fell on the ground juggle will continue a bit. There`s no escape mechanics. That was one of the reasons why i stopped playing Tekken long ago, before recent return.
- Very bad customizaiton options. Too many crap and cartoonish items.
- Bad single player. No arcade mode with endings.
- 2D characters with mechanics from the games they came from. Akuma has his fireballs and Ex meter. Geese has stuff from KoF.
- Other bad characters gameplay-wise. Noctis style is something very different than what Tekken characters have. You can check videos or play as him to understand what i mean. Alisa has chainsaw and can fly...
Combat is the main and only reason i`m still playing it and it`s the reason why Tekken playerbase is a lot bigger than others. DoA 6 is dead. SC6 is close to death. MK11 is dying slowly too.

Ill add personally i prefer tekken. Partially because its what i grew up with and partially because I find mortal kombat stiff. Tekken makes more sense to me and is easy to make sense of.
Mortal kombat also has projectile spam

Base game + season pass 1 + season pass 2 + eliza
Base game - story mode, 35 characters
Pass 1 - Geese, noctiis, bowling mode and costumes.
Pass 2 - Anna, Lei, Armor King, Marduk, Julia, Negan
Season pass 3 just came out. Thats why its not included.
