should i main asuka?
Im new (well i played tekken 3 many years ago), the character i most like is asuka and feel inclined to play her all the time, tho after reading so much stuff, ppl say she kinda sucks for higher ranks (currently dan 2 online with 9 wins in a row) is this true?

every character is viable, why are people obsessing over that all the time?
Like, if you have fun then enjoy the character regardless??

How about just answering the question instead of preaching?
Asuka is pretty easy to play. She is good place to start. Really hard characters are like xiao, heihachi, and etc.

I wouldn't worry about whats good at higher skill levels. right now you will lose mostly because of poor decisions. tighten up your game first, then worry about if she is good or not later.

yeah dont worry too much about tierlist. That only really applies to the highest level of tekken.

no point in even looking at tier list unless you are at the top 1%

choose which character to play based on the character's appearance and if you like the way their moves look

not what position they are on a tier list

Asuka is harder to win with than many characters. She gets good damage if you can space and land CH's. Her jab is -2 on block and she's very defensive. I like her, but I can win more easily with Kazumi and Josie. Also for the guy that says Xiaiyu is hard to use just lol. Her combos are easy and AOP is overly strong. Her rage art is the best in the game and JDCR says Xiaxzyu and Dragunov are the easiest high tier characters to win with in T7, due to their easy execution and high reward.

If you like Asuka main her, I play her, but it's a struggle. There are easier characters to win with, but play who you like.

its not true, now here is how tier lists work in tekken they are only accounting for super long sets where lower tier characters will have a harder time getting a lot of consistent wins, NOT short ranked matches. its very important to play who you like most since all characters are viable in tekken because the game is balanced so well. ( im an asuka main) and i have no problems winning with her any of my losses comes from me not being good enough not the characters tier.

It is true. I have played Asuka for 7 months before Tekken 7's release and played Jun who has a similar move set in older tekkens. I was able to reach a higher rank in far fewer games with Kazumi, who I barely practiced 20 minutes with, vs Asuka who I've been playing for months offline locally vs tekken players and online after T7's release. I win more easily with Josie as well. I bet you can't name a single asian major where Asuka got 1st or top 3, Kazumi got top 5 in Japan a few weeks ago and another Kazumi rekt Saint and got 2nd last week in the Phillipines to JDCR.

Some characters are BETTER & EASIER to win with. JDCR has said so, i've experieced it in Virtua Fighter and Tekken. Absolutely play who you want, but tier lists are valid as Dragunov is SS tier and has won more majors than any other character. 3rd Strike Yun, Chun, and Ken are way better than everyone else in that game. USF4 Elena and E.Ryu were super high tier and dominated. SFAE Yun was insanely powerful, SF Vanilla Sagat was high tier. I understand the game is new and people wanna push the lie that tier's don't matter. But a stronger character with better tools, better damage, and better frame data, is just that, better.
All characters are competitively viable. Tekken 7 is a bit too new to tell for sure if there will be any characters unable to keep up at the highest levels of play, and patches can change that. However, this doesn't mean all characters are as easy to learn. You might be able to reach the same skill level as CHARACTER A after 20 hours of practice as it takes for CHARACTER B after 50 hours of practice. The rate of improvement with each character may change as you make various breakthroughs or gain experience.

Pick a character you simply like the most as a first impression. If you keep getting better and keep having fun, stick with them. If you get frustrated or start feeling stuck, try a new character for a while. Here's a quick overview of which characters might be easier to learn, at least at the early stages: https://www.reddit.com/r/Tekken/comments/6ccj9d/need_help_deciding_which_character_to_play_here/

PPL playing all characters on a high level.

Some ppl even picking only low tier characters to prove they valid. But Asuka good character anyway.

Pick her if you want to. She may be lower tiered but in the right hands a low tier can be a beast. Plus you'll play a lot better if you like the character. Gigas is in the lowest tier yet I still use him because he's just really fun to play as.

Just play what you want. Tiers and character specific stuff don't even come into play till the higher or the highest level.
