That is a funny question actually. Well they do sound the same, their own name were actually a japanese name, if we are going to translate both of those japanese name. Akuma would mean Devil/Demon, and Kuma would be translated to Bear literally in english lol. Akuma itself originated from Street Fighter, he is a guest character. And Kuma is tekken original character, i believed it is also heihachi's pet or something if im not wrong, and belong to mishima corp.

In japanese Kuma means bear, Akuma means Demon/Devil. In game, both are really different as such.
