I didn't say get rid of them entirely, just the simple rectangles. They can make the shapes fit the bodies.
And you are just speculating. You have no idea what this change would do because it has not been done before. It doesn't hurt to try and they can always roll back if its bad.
None of the animations or attacks are prepared to deal with any kind of precision. They would have to start from scratch.
