I'm sick of new characters at this point, we have enough already. A pack of new quality stages and outfits would be much more interesting.
Also: Why would they release new characters for free, years after the game has launched? It's
just not standard practice in the industry.
Okay? Not rly sure why you write that at me.
Especially years after the games original release.
People modeling them programing them balancing them play testing them animating them do not work for free.
And most of the people who actually play fighting games and are not flavor of the month casuals are actually happy to get more content for a fighting game years after release.
Not to mention you can alweays wait for a sale and get characters for less.
Also season passes have actually saved fighting games not ruined them. Because of them we get actual updates and balance patches regularly instead of having to buy a new version of a game just to get a balance patch.
Hell Tekken season 3 is so much different than vanilla that is borderline a new game.
Tekken 5 and 6 are more similar than 7 vanila and 7 season 3.
Before this generation you where lucky if a game had even a single new balance patch.
Especially in a game like tekken that gives you a ton of characters out of the box even wo having to buy a season pass.
Harada himself stated Namco would not give them money to make balance patches unless the game could sell additional content after release as it's just not profitable.
I do think thou that DLC characters should be free in Training mode in fighters just to give people an ability to lab a character and not have to pay money for it.
I mean even games like Heroes of the storm lets you try out a character.
Hell i often get a huge urge to play a character online after playng them in training mode i think making them free in it would actually make more people want to buy them.
Free DLC isn't gonna happen. The developer/publisher still puts money into this game and expects a return on this investment. Demanding payment for new content aka new characters is just common sense.
Unlocking all characters in practice mode, for free, would be great though and seems like a reasonable demand. But the OP never brought that up.
Gating characters behind an offline mode is just a lazy way to extend playtime. No thanks. Imagine having to play treasure battle with Shaheen, just so you can unlock Lee
I guess you don't remember how easy it was to unlock characters in earlier Tekken games.
All you had to do was beat arcade mode on easy with a different character. And you could play up to the last match with your main and just throw the fight to get back to character select.
Or if you didn't have a main back then just pick Paul and smash everyone or pick Eddy and just mash 3,4. Unlock new chracter every 5 minutes. That didn't extend play time nearly as much as the unlocks themselves did.
So what was the point then, if not artificially extend play time?
