Need help restoring Tekken 7 save data/customization data
I recently had to reinstall windows which means I had to reinstall Tekken 7. I read many directions on how to backup and restore your game data, so I copied my data from the directory at ...TekkenGame\Saved\SaveGames\Tekken7... and copied the 2 folders from that directory. From what I've read so far, this is where your customization data and rank data are. THIS IS WHAT I NEED!! Anyways, my reinstall process went as follows: redownloaded game, started game so the game could create a ...TekkenGame\Saved\SaveGames... directory, exited the game and copied my backup data into the aforementioned directory, then I launched the game again and it says data is corrupted and needs to reformat. NOTE: Steam cloud was turned off during this entire process. ??? What the hell am I supposed to? Here is what else I tried: I tried to copy the 2 savegame folders into the new TekkeGame... directory BEFORE I even "first launched" the game, but there is no TekkenGame... directory before you first launch the game so I don't know if that's possible. I also tried deleting the newly created data from the ...TekkenGame\Saved\SaveGames\Tekken7... folder and enabling Steam cloud so that I could sync the game data I had stored on there (I apparently had a backup from August). AND THAT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. This is so frustrating, I've put so much time and effort into this for it to be lost. I read everything I could and took every safe measure I could so that this wouldn't happen. What the hell is going wrong? Can someone help please

Your save data is linked to the installation of Tekken 7. If you wipe everything, then your Steam product ID may be different from the one previously installed. If there was an update, that makes a difference too. I would suggest starting over. I understand it is frustrating, but Namco is trying to limit the save scumming and file manipulation that is so rampant on this version of the game (Console isnt excluded). You may have legitimate and honest ambitions, but I would just start over, Or contact steam or namco directly.

Thanks for your reply. What exactly do you mean "if you wipe everything"? Do you mean when if reinstall my OS, or do you mean if I delete and reinstall Tekken? I just want to be sure because I don't want to end up in this situation again. And also, is there even a way to backup your data in this kind of situation or not (meaning if I have to reinstall Windows for some reason)?? I have a copy of my data that was located in the TekkenGame\Saved\SaveGames\Tekken7... folders. I've been backing it up every month manually. So I know the Steam backup was definitely out of date, but my own backups were definitely kept in sync with the latest updates\patches, but like I said, when I copy them into the correct folders and start the game, it says the data is corrupted. I just don't understand why none of this information is clear, presentable, and understandable from Steam's directions. They are the reason my data is screwed up, not Bandai Namco. This is exactly why I wanted nothing to do with Steam and still don't. I don't want to have to go through a third party just to play a game on MY own personal pc. I knew this crap would happen. But there is no other choice. I'm not spending 400+ dollars on a ps4 just to play one game.

Reinstalling steam and the OS can cause this issue. Steam isnt that big of an issue. Cloud backup does work. Try playing as the character with your data WITHOUT any customization items with your save data. Your issue might be the custom characters and not the save data itself.
