Online play not working at all
Purchased this game this morning. First time it's ever been on the PC. Relatively fresh install of Windows. Checked my DNS, tried a VPN, checked my hosts file, checked my AV/FW, checked my Windows services, uninstalled and re-downloaded/reinstalled the game and checked my router.

This is an old error and threads go back at least a year with people reporting the same issue.

The error is "You cannot use this feature as you are not connected to a network" as soon as I select online play from the main menu. The error then goes away and game returns to the main menu.

How do you fix this bug?

Yes by "checked my router" that's what I mean. However, UPNP was working fine from the start.

I found the solution. In the command prompt:

ipconfig /release ipconfig /flushdns netsh winsock reset netsh int ip reset ipconfig /renew

Reboot PC.

Now online play suddenly works. The funny thing is I didn't change anything in such a way it would hurt this functionality... in fact nothing was really changed in regards to connectivity. The only change made that could affect this was the DNS server settings (which I setup to use DNScrypt once again after running those commands and the game still works fine). The only other change was the "optimal" preset on TCPOptimizer; a change which I've also reapplied and the game continues to function.

Therefore, nothing user configurable has changed from the time the game wasn't working until the time it was working. Everything I have is setup identical to how it was prior to the game working in online mode but now the game works.

Update: The game broke the network connection AGAIN. This time I had been playing for a few days and suddenly while waiting for another match, after having just finished the previous one, the game decided to break my connection all over again.

Hey Ken u seem like a damn smart guy, could you please help me with my problem?
Can't play with a certain friend even though both can play online. We get in a lobby and the connection is grey and crossed. If we start the game its syncing for 30 seconds and then the "Communication error occurred". Finding each other in quick match didn't work.
I would love you forever if u can give me an advice on what could possibly be the problem. Why is it all good vs random in ranked for both of us, but we cannot play against each other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

I'm not sure. I'm new to this game.. but from what you describe I could suggest making sure UpNp is enabled in your router (him too). That, or port forward the proper ports: https://portforward.com/tekken-7/

If you can connect to a lobby but not play, to me this suggests that they use a certain port for lobbies and another/others for the gameplay.

Or Namco just doesn't give a f**k about us. As long as they're milking money.
