He can punish really well with his df+2,even interrupt in between, his side step is decent, not surperb like Lili but better than Gigas or Jack.
He can pick up combos very easily with his 4,2. HE has a ton of damage, pressure tools and pokes. He keeps opponent on their heels through the whole game.
If you are relying on the spam moves, it will work only after the first few ranks, once you touch fighter or vanguard, you will meet the same people who use spamming moves and people who know how to mix up. Thats when being spoiled abusing the same move will get you in trouble.
But still even at that level, if learn to mixup and be unpredictable, he is far much better and far superior because he has a lot of control and punishers together with pokes and pressure tools. Range, counter moves, special grabs, he has everything at his disposal.
Atm he populates the high rankings, and even at Tekken God Prime. People complaining about high tier characters now is just being spoiled.
I understand he has good moves. But Explain to me how you think he's better than any other even mid rank character in this game.
Your response is pretty much "yeah well theres good players that play him, and look these moves are pretty good".
His sidestep being better than gigas and jack means nearly nothing. Those are the two biggest characters in the game while noctis' whole kit is teleportation and quick hits, he cant seem to shimmy to the left faster than an abomination.
His mixups are at best 50-50's, theres no mixups in his auto strings, not even a low hit, so blocking means just stand there and take it. he has only demo-man out of low hits so whats the mix up there? the 4-2 pickup only works if theyre in a state of knock-down.
Saying interrupt with df2 makes me feel like you haven't played noctis very much because, from experience, you either trade and get no follow up, it counter hits and you get no follow up, or you get counter hit, and lose your whole life bar.
I'm geniunily interested in why you think he's a good character. but just telling me there are people who do well with him, isn't quite enough to convince me
Kazuya is a 50/50 character. He doesnt have many lows and can be interrupted by a high. He doesnt have much lows either. He depends a lot on his forms of EGWF, and its not even easy to master his wave dash and EGWF. His wave dash low if blocked, means a free death combo and he is weak when you crush his highs, but then thats why he has a lot of mid counters.
I cant say Noctis is a 50/50. You can really manage your distance and your moves, he has good tracking and has a lot of options, he has good side steps and escapes, and if he wants to attack, he can close in very quickly after pressuring from a distance.
Compare with Gigas. He has no mixups, his +frames on blocks is bad. Cant pressure or control his surroundings, he is more of a counter character, always waiting someone to do something. He has reach but has lame range, most of his moves can be punished on block, some of his combos wont work unless you can input it at the exact moment like his crouching df+2, f+2,1. Trying to land a b+2*>f requires more skill than you think. Most players wont stand there and take it so you gotta set it up. Compare with Noctis df+2, its like ez mode all day, you can land that easy.

So essentially you're saying Kazuya has a higher skill cap. Kazuya also has a hell sweep that starts both at low and at mid if you do the jump version of it, that can both finish and start combos so I would argue that his lows are significantly better and more diverse than noctis'.
"[Noctis] has good tracking" - Have you played him recently? The only tracking he really has is his crouching df 2 and maybe d 2-2 if you're lucky.
db 1+2 has no tracking
df 2 has no tracking
uf 2 has no tracking
db2 has no tracking
b1-1+2 has no tracking
b2-1+2 has no tracking
f2 has no tracking
RAGE ART has no tracking
RAGE DRIVE has no tracking.
These are some of his most pivotal, game designing moves, and they can ALL be countered by a roll or a sidestep within a huge window.
"he has good side steps and escapes"
From what I've seen he also has a horrid side-step and back dash causing him to get hit even when he does the proper side-step at the correct timing (practiced on dragnov's ff2)
I'd also like to know what escapes you're talking about because I can't ever seem to escape when pressured unless I can read a move and counter hit. Counter has got to be the worst move in his kit and he doesn't really have any moves that scream "Get off me" to me, that haven't been completely crushed in practical use.
I totally agree that he can close the distance fast after pressuring, but almost all of his pressure puts you closer to your enemy so whats the point? If you're tossing out moves from mid distance, their ending animation will put you easily within reach of every character. A perfectly placed db 2 can be launch punished on block by dragnov, lei, and heihatchi just to name a few. (played these characters a lot in ranked tonight which is why they're on my mind).
Going along with the gigas comparison, what of noctis' +frame options on block are good? I haven't really seen anything I'm impressed by yet. I can't say I've played gigas, probably ever so I'm not qualified to talk about him, but isn't his archetype more of a "bruiser" character? which would make sense why he wants to get up close and personal and trade hits. He wants to intimidate his opponent into making a move he can armor through or counter or crush and what better way to do that than right on top of them (with lack of range). Idk tho, I'm just speculating like I said.
My general problem with Noctis is that he seems to lose every neutral I find him in because his moves come out to slow, or his hit boxes whiff on moving enemies, or his lack of tracking makes me have to anticipate when my opponent is going to roll, often losing me the momentum of the combo/carry. He seems like he is 2 or 3 moves away from a finished character in my opinion but I really like him. I just want to feel like I'm on even footing against the characters I play against in ranked, not that I have to heavily out- read my opponent to win a match in the greens while they mash away with their auto combos out of normals.
Im a big Noctis fan and main him. I do agree he's weak hoever he does his best work in range 1-2 if you don't know what this means range 1 - 2 means 1 or two characters can be placed between two characters and that is the distance it is between the two characters yours and the enemy.
Yes Noctis does have a 10f While Standing its just a generic 4 that many characters have. When in range 0 you can only rely on his 10 frame punishers, his 1,1,2 string his d/f+1 jab and maybe his parries which are extremely easy to do. His sidestep game is fine, its really not that bad IDK but a sidestep sidesteps when you time it right and it depends the character and what move they do, for example EWGF ( Electric Wind God Fist ) can ONLY ONLY be sidestepped by going left a except for Jin's and even then you still need to time it right to early the character re-orients too late and you get hit.
Im not sure if you read the patch notes but many of his moves were buffed for increased tracking. His crouched d/f+2 is now homing which is one of his great lows, his d+3 tracks and is also a good low, his f+4,2 has increased tracking, his fF, 1+2 is one of his great homing moves and is safe on block, his d/f+1 jab is also to stop sidesteppers because its a mid.
Yes some of his strings aren't "True" combos unless you get Counter hit, his 2,2,2,2 string only follows through if you get CH on the 3rd hit of the string.
Many of his launchers are great and have excellent range, his low parry damage is also great as well, his combos have ridcoulous wall carry which his 2,2,2,2 string carries extremely far. Many of his combos have extremely good damage and has a few save moves that he can use to push back enemies.
A few moves he got to push back enemies would be b4, 1+2 which leaves him in + on block and significantly pushes back the enemy, fF,1+2 pushes back enemy and safe on block. I have never experienced his fF,1+2 ever going through enemies
His Emo man is unsafe as Paul's EMO man its a staggered low on block meaning if someone blocks it, its leaves them in extremely punishable state, in Tekken most lows if not all lows are extremely block punishable.
Good tracking doesnt mean homing moves. When you attack and there is a white sparkles means its a homing move that can hit side stepping. The tracking being good doesnt mean gurrantee hit side stepping. Infact Noctis range is so good, that people need to learn to side step and to side step Noctis, you need to have really good timing and good anticipation or his moves can still launch or tail spin.
http://rbnorway.org/noctis-t7-frames/
If you look at this, he has 4 homing moves. Which is rediculous for a character because most characters have only 2 homing moves. Not only are they homing but they also send you into tail spin which is super unfair.
I think you are angry because people are figuring out Noctis and learning to predict the bad habits of common noctis players who abuse his easy combos and moves.
Noctis is super unfair if you play against him, he has 4 homing moves, most of his moves immediately tail spins, his combo deals sick damage.. he has so much moves that require low start up frames. A lot of his moves are safe on block and have a lot of plus frames on hit.
If anything i think you are expecting Noctis to be this invincible character that absolutely have no weakness at all. What you are asking for is to make Noctis even more unfair, there would be no way for anyone to side step or get close to noctis. I think you get pissed coz you dont have a game plan when the moment they get close, you panic and you dont know how to punish or exhange pokes, because you are so comfortable abusing the range game.
A player who main Gigas like me, playing Noctis is like heaven. Maybe you should try playing a low tier Gigas and then maybe you will know how it feels like to play a really shty characer, and it will make you appreciate Noctis more. I gurantee you play Gigas, you will not have the ability to spam and abuse some safe move that will gurantee you a combo most of the time.Gigas has no chain attack,no fast high to mid move and his grab moves require complex input, only has 1 homing move and no mix ups. Every thing you do with Gigas has to be timed perfectly and wif at the split second, you will be forced to grasp the fundamentals of the game and play at a fair level.
Peoples who play against Noctis consider him strong.
What an classic.
So easy GG. Stop complaining. I breeze with Noctis. I dont even practice with him and i can get so high rank, i gave up playing this cheat character because he is BS.
After struggling for days to get Jin to the same rank, who he has been playing for 10 years, he gets Noctis to Mighty Ruler in a couple of hours. It definitely proves how braindead Noctis is, but that doesn't mean he is op.
But "Noctis is a horribly weak character" is so wrong and something you will only ever hear from a Noctis player.
Whenever i play against a cheap character, in the back of my head is like, "well atleast they are not as cheap and broken as noctis!"
