Lab rat
How do YOU lab a character?

Go onto practice mode and go through every single move of the opponent and remember how to punish sidestep etc?

How is this possible when chars like king and hwoarang have over a hundred moves?

Seems very difficult for a newbie

What is the purpose of this post if you answered your own question? How is it difficult for any level player? It's literally how you choose to spend your time playing the game. Some people spend 12hrs at a time in practice mode.

I'm willing to lab but I have not enough patience, or time for that matter. So first I go through all the moves with either TekkenBot or TekkenChicken app, and then form a generic pattern in my head. Example, if Bryan starts the attack with his left hand it means that the first two hits are always High so the second can be ducked, if he starts with the right hand it means they are always Mids so no ducking, etc etc. Additionally, people will always use those 4-5 moves anyway, the safe ones or the abusable ones, or a combination of both, so it's not at all impossible.

I lab as I encounter problems, when I wanna test something out, or when someone gives me advice or insight about a characters moves or strings. Basically, I go in knowing what I want to learn about in particular

For example, the other day I got destroyed by a devil jin because I couldn't handle his fly and crouch dash mixups, so I went into practice to gain a better understanding of his options and see what I could do against them. It's much better to have made an observation about a certain issue that you want to investigate, like how you can punish a character you struggle with or whatever

Likewise, go into practice to practice tech and ♥♥♥♥, and always boot up practice when someone tells you something you didn't know

Sometimes, if I struggled against a character in general, I'll look through their novelist for moves that I remember seeing and analyse then, and I'll probably have a video guide or something for that char to help me understand stuff

you first go to tekken zaibatsu forum and learn your characters
10 best moves
each frame punisher
a combo or two for each launcher
that would be a good start for you

I lab moves I struggle with. As well as the moves I'm obviously going to come across, such as Deathfist etc.
I don't ever feel the need to go all the way through every characters move list.

I have more patience for testing things out at/against the wall, though. That's a part of learning TEKKEN that I enjoy.

Not every single one, except for my own character's, of course.
I just go and play. I learn how to deal with some moves on the fly and for the ones I don't I go to practice mode and experiment.

Have your matches recorded and watch which moves are beating you and then lab those moves.
