Worst Offline/Online Experience in Tekken History ?
Hello there, don't get me wrong, i love Tekken, i had almost 2000 hours on Tekken 6 on PS3, but back in the days the online was actually working and the story mode was actually more complete and fun.

TL/DR : What the ♥♥♥♥ happened between Tekken 6 and 7 Bandai Namco ?

For a fighting game it's still one the best, no doubt on that, but there are far too much issues atm to consider it a good game if you consider it for the online only.
I don't have much knowledge in Netcode and things like that but Tekken 7 it's the only game i have real trouble with in Online and i can't explain why. I play a lot of other multiplayer games that work just fine, and it's not my connexion.
I'm asking why is that when you find an opponent, the combat start with a 4 or 5 quality connexion and then go down to 1 randomly and sometimes symply desync and the fight end, going back to lobby.. I'm in Europe (France), i find a good amount of German players with who the fights go well, almost no problem, but it's always the same 10 to 20 peoples it's getting annoying.
Also found some peoples really far away from my country like American and Indian and no problem either, just had issues with a Russian player who had the worst connexion in the gaming history, just his character intro took like 20 seconds to play cause of the lag and i quit thinking it was not worth the hassle of going though 10 minutes of this♥♥♥♥♥♥ But hey, my fault apparently, got 6% disconnect now so even less peoples will accept to fight me, nice.
Oh, and don't forget tourney/friendly match lobbies, here 75% of the people's connexion is grayed out and i can't play with them, like most of my friends who live in the same country as me weirdly enough.
Yep i opened my ports, yep my NAT is open, it's just a shame such a great fighting game work so badly compared to it's predecessor, never played Tag 2, but 6 was the real deal. ♥

About the offline, not much to say, it's cinematic as ♥♥♥♥ like every AA games nowadays and that's about it. Special matchs in treasure battle are manageable but i don't like them.
The real fun in 6 was the story mode when you fight tons of soldiers while running in full levels and things like that, like a good old Double Dragon, with restore items, pick up weapons, with a 3D environment and the full movelist of your character, it was even playable in coop with a friend or random stranger.

But i'll stop complaining and just ask you what are your feeling with this game, despite all this, it's still good, i just hope for a better future, because Soul Calibur VI is coming this year and i would like it to actually work better than the mess Tekken 7 is. :)

To each their own, I found the Scenario Campaign levels tedious and monotonous, the characters just have a silent era text bubble and then they fight, which is quite a step-down from T5/DR's story battles with certain characters which provided a lot more characterization to them.

My favorite game in ages, so I agree with the sentiment. It's my first Tekken and the options in this game are crazy. I still hope they support with adding new (old) fighters, challenge mode, or more. I still think its missing a many features it could have.

A huge congrats to Bandai Namco.
Right?!

I mean there is always space to improve or to add features but man this game is just insane.

lol XD there are 38 characters and I have learned like 7 in the hundreds of hours I have played. When I look at the roster I'm always like "damn... perhaps my kids or kids of my kids will learn all of them"

And since the online/offline gameplay is so great its always fun to play and learn new chars and strats.

"Worthless stuff" - I disagree.
The offline game modes have been there until TTT2.
If they were worthless, they would have been removed long ago.
If you google a bit, you will find a lot of Tekken 7 threads, where people wonder why those modes got removed, and they are clearly unhappy with Tekken 7.

Counter-Question:
Will Tekken 7 be a worse game if game modes like Survival, Team Battle or Tekken Force are available?

I can also understand guys who are not happy that many classical characters got removed, but since they were replaced by new (even if different) characters, this can be accepted.
What were the missing game modes replaced with?
The CPU was always bad in Tekken - they would have to RE-INVENT single player to make it relevant. Basically once you know Tekken a little you just can not play against CPU since it is not good enough.

Tekken would not be worse with SP modes - but it would be the same for me and people sharing my opinion. Its just irrelevant.

And even with good AI - imho survival, Tekken force, Tekken bowling, Devil within - all of that is thrash. Time waster for a few minutes. There is either no depth or they are fun but amateurish (tekken force, devil within).

So as I said - missing arcade mode, missing survival mode - if people didnt say that its missing I wouldn't even noticed propably.

But I love what they are trying to do with treasure mode and Story mode. Still its just an AI mode that I mostly ignore but its a good idea how to make SP mode relevant.

I still wait (from tekken 1) for a good SP mode :)

Personal idea:
Lets make the story mode and beside that lets make SP campaign similar to Fight Club or Puzzle quest or Virtua Tennis (or was it other tennis game?) Where you have a map and tournaments and side quests and training and stuff like that. Perhaps you could have own fighter - at first pick from a few basic sets of moves and add moves after training etc.
OR lets make it a part of STORY campaign! The main quest would be classical story and sidequests and training etc. would be side ones.

Of course this is no little mode that they can add by a few mouse-clicks - it would require HUGE dedication AND good AI that has never been present in Tekken yet... so... yeah. But that would be a meaningful mode I would like to play.

It's differents opinions i respect that and i'm i glad some of you can enjoy the game more than i do.
About some missing features i also forgot about the replays, now there no way reviewing old matchs except if we directly record them with an external capture software, wich is actually easier to do today on PC than 7 years ago on console.

I don't think it about bad netcode.
I think it about people who play through bad Wi-Fi or unstable internet.
I don't have problem with people who have good ping and stable internet connection

as it has been stated already, playing against the cpu is really not a good way to practice the game. it's bad and nothing to gain from. basically unless your playing offline with people regurarly then the only mode worth playing is online. playing against the cpu is not the same. i played a few of the previous games, and even back then the only reason i liked the game was playing it with other people.

TL;DR

Let's not forget that not everybody likes to play online.
Some guys have a bad Internet connection, face lamers only, have bad gameplay experiences etc.
Tekken 7 should give players the chance to have both offline and online fun.
Offline fun is simply not possible.
Arcade mode is not missing in Tekken 7, it's just as short as never before.
The story mode makes a good impression, but compared to the Campaign mode of Tekken 6
it's super short as well.
(And you can't choose your characters - makes sense, though)

Online fun, well, there are lots of complaints here on the forums.
(It's normal for online modes, but for this reason there should be good offline alternatives.)

Tekken can't be compared to games like Counter-Strike.
Such games are simply not made to be played offline/with CPU only.
(This has been the case since the first version of CS)
But for Tekken it's not the same.
Tekken 1, 2, 3, TT and 4 had no online modes, yet people still had fun with them.
And since it's possible to play locally on PC or console, it would be the best gaming experience.
In T7 it just makes no fun.

As I said several times:
Playing against the CPU doesn't replace playing online/local against humans.
However, you get to know the characters and stages.
Playing the first time against a "human character" will definitely not be the same
if you never played against the "CPU character" before.
I mean you don't even know any possible moves.
You could see Team Battle as a good practice mode - if it was there.

Furthermore, what's so difficult to add Online Team Battle?
Are online people so limited that they would be overwhelmed with such a mode?
If somebody is too boring and too stupid for such a mode, they can still play simple 1 vs 1.
But there are lots of guys who would prefer longer matches and some variations.
Online Team Battle would be perfect there.

Well, that's pretty lame, although it's not lame, it's simply a lie.
As you correctly said, it was in TTT1, and for free.
I played it some times, it was fun, but since the important game modes were there too, I had no problem with that bonus game mode.
In Tekken 7 it's like having a house with a swimming pool but no roof...

Ehm, have you ever played any other Tekken game before?
If castrated means good for you, then you're right!
Yeah I did. T7 seems better almost in every way.

imho incredible achievement.

I dont mind at all that they are starting to cut the worthless stuff from the game like arcade mode or customizations.

But that was the actual fun stuff that kept me coming back in the T3 days (Tekken Ball especially). Online is fun at the start, but devolves into a frustrating grind

Okay, my thoughts on Tekken 7.

Story Mode:
Story mode was very cinematic and I quite liked the transitions from cutscenes into gameplay. There were some cool non traditional fighting segments (like that part with the gun). I didn't like the inclusion of Akuma in the story and the fact he played such an integral role. The history with Kazumi and Heihachi was interesting and I did like how it sets up more rivalry within the Mishima family for the next game.

However the stupid narrator sounds so bored and monotone which kinda ruins the experience. The story mode itself was also quite short so that's disappointing.

I think I may have preferred one of the previous formats from the early games.

Character Stories:
Whilst these add some charm to the characters through their individual endings, wholly, this mode is quite disappointing. Screen of text, battle, cutscene. Boom; you're done.

Basically this mode is arcade endings extracted and sold as a new thing.

Single player modes
Arcade
Arcade is really short and there's no real reason to complete it. There's no ending for the characters you just go back to the main screen. I dunno, they could've made some incentive to play it other than the 2 achievements the mode gives. It's kinda disappointing.

Treasure Battle:
This mode is nice the first time (it's basically survival and ghost mode mashed together) but it gets quite tedious after you get all the items and stuff. I also quite miss being able to pick my opponent using the DPad (like in ghost mode) There's also no alternative single player mode so that's disappointing.

Overall, in the single player, I think the core gameplay is pretty good. The thing is, it just lacks variety. The game could really do with more single player modes from other games in the series. Things like Time Attack, Team battle and so on. The CPU is also way weaker than previous games and you can't adjust it (except in story mode) so that's disappointing too.

Furthermore, one thing that irked me was the fact that they made Tekken Bowl paid DLC when previously it was one of the core elements of the base product. Like, every Tekken always had a unique mode that wasn't about its traditional gameplay; be it Tekken Bowl, Tekken Ball, Tekken Force/Devil Within/Scenario Mode. Plus, they said that the new mode in the DLC was actually going to be a brand new mode, which I would've been okay with but because it was Tekken Bowl, which isn't new that kinda irked me a bit. Also it didn't have online

Online
This is where the game does its best. Which it should because this one is focused pretty much solely around this mode.

Online is quite good in that the netcode is quite nice. The game also sorts a healthy amount of people to find and the online modes are varied. I like the addition of a tournament mode, it's quite unique. Also the private lobbies work well too

The only qualms I have with online is that there's no online practice mode.

Practice
This leads me to practice mode. Not much to say here. It's probably the best and most comprehensive mode I've seen in a fighting game.

One improvement would be to display frame data in-game. Another would be to add a basic tutorial for newcomers or maybe even beyond that. I think that'd be a better use of their time than the autocombos they added
