I don't know what character you are playing, but an opponent that is mashing is often disadvantage when it comes to frames, means his moves will comes out later than yours.
So you might get a faster hit out earlier or even an launcher, depending on how big his disatvantage is.
You should look up the "punishes" of your character and start training to punish your opponents.
I know there are a lot of frames involved you would have to learn to do so properly, but you can also just by just using 3. The fastest punish youre character has, a medium one with more damage and a launch one wich is slow, but can punish an opponents risky moves with huge damage.
Also, if you see an opponent starting to mash from a distance, missing you, try to launch them from a distance with good spacing. Your character probably also has a good "wiff punish tool" that is probably a launcher for a big combo and you should look yours up. Pro players don't rely on opponents not knowing proper placement and wiffing a lot, instead they make their opponent wiff by using good movement.
Somes armor moves have even wall bounce, which gives you a combo, after they bounce off an wall right behind them.
ahh this is what i need.
