King's amazing throw combo exploit
So for veteran players this is going to make absolutely no difference at all, but for newbies this feels important. This is my first Tekken game and so far while I've played lots of characters offline Lars is the only one I've taken into Ranked. It has been a good experience! I've learned a lot, and I've improved on the basic mechanics of the game as well as the combos of the character. 20 hours in or so and I feel like all my hard work is finally starting to pay off! I can juggle, I can mix-up, I can throw, I can wavedash, I can cancel DE into sidesteps and other options.. Very rewarding stuff!

Then I found out that you can do King's entire 70% damage throw combo with one button. -One- button. By mapping all four buttons onto a shoulder button all you need to do is get the opening throw done (v+>,2+4) or (3+4, 1+4) and then mash the shoulder button and away you go! King will automatically complete his throw combo all the way into giant swing or muscle buster. Obviously there's more to King than this, and these throws can be broken, but in newbie gameplay it feels somewhat unfair that what is supposed to be one of the most difficult-to-input combos can be completed in this way when every other character has to work so hard for it. Is this a design feature?

.. Or should we just #buffLars? :>

if you always use the same throw chain by pressing all 4 buttons, the break will always be the same... the whole chainthrow is designed that you can alter between breaks to keep your opponent guessing, so not very effective....

This explains a lot. I just assumed every king player is using macros for that poop.

That throw has two points where it can be broken beside the grab itself. You break it with 1. Once you know that, you'll mash 1 as well and you wont get combo'ed ever again (of course, not considering lag).
Also Lars is in the lowest cathegory and arguably worse than Chloe. He made sense back in the day when you could do crazy stuff with people bouncing all over the stage. Now... eh.
@Rattenkoenig and also @sirlion, bear I mind I did say this won't matter to veteran players. Throws are either broken with 1, 2, or 1+2 depending on the throw - but how on earth is a newer player going to know which throw for every character corresponds to which throw break? My point was more that a combo that is supposed to be obscenely difficult to execute can be made ridonculously easy.

Also I know Lars is considered rubbish, but it's not like that matters in low level play anyway - plus I find his SUPER SERIOUS ANIME FACE so hilarious that I can't help but love him. I even gave him a costume to make him look like a super sayan. :>

i mean if were going to talk about massive dammage that only noobs would fall for back to back to back.

why not give pauls deathfist a mention.

tekken has alot to do with learning matchups and while some damage sources may seem high, theres always a catch.
blocking, grab breaking, side stepping.
if you are getting hit by something and you did not know what to do, jot it down and head on over to practise mode. im sure you will find mutiple options on how to beat whatever you come across

There's a great deal of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that new players have to deal with. King's throws, Asuka's endless attack loop, Eddy players pressing buttons, Kazuya's jumping attack that goes into sweeps, the possibility of combos being extended if you don't know that you can techroll, most often after you have hit the wall, and plenty more.

Anyway, about King's throws, it's actually all very easy and it is by design. Like you can press and hold 3 and then press 1, so you will get 3, 1+3. It's called input buffering.

It's unfair to new players but at least it makes the game more accessible which is why it has a healthy amount of players for a fighting game. If you have no talent whatsoever, Eddy will carry you to yellow ranks.

If you have very little talent and too much pride to play Eddy, you pick King instead.

I input them all manually, that way I can choose each steps in a chain grab. The strongest grabs such as the rolling death cradle are simply impossible while mashing 1+2+3+4, as it'll always do the first grab listed next in in the chain. Inputs are quite easy to do on a fightstick, took me only 3 hours in practice to learn them all and remember when to do each. If you always use the same strings in a chain it's easy for your opponent to catch on and break it, rending your grabs near useless.
This isn't supposed to be a thread complaining that King is overpowered. My point was more that it just seems bizarre that a character can have an entire combo mapped to a single button.

... Then again I'm not a Katarina player. :D

This.

honestly the only people using that smash all buttons, (which has been around in tekken with king since I think like.... 3?!?) are complete noobs trying to be good. Real king players, will mix it up manually so you can't escape. Most of the time I don't even use chainthrows unless I reallly want to punish stupid mistakes.
