Is Tekken considered an anime game?

There's one classmate right now (great start) debating or trying to prove me wrong, that TEKKEN is an anime game, by using a user-defined tag found on the game's Steam site.

I have never seen TEKKEN as an anime game, even since I was a child. I always thought of it being a game where martial artists and animals go around the world beating each other up, and at the end the champion will fight a deformed monster.

What are your opinions on this? Am I just wrong? Do I have the wrong point of view on looking at the series?

The visual style isn't anime in my opinion.
Then again anime is japanese animation, and Tekken is a japanese game and has animations.

People turn into demons, pandas wear hats and juggle people. Now people are starting to use energy blasts... Not to mention everyone in the Mishima bloodline being a stereotypical anime character.

I think we might be playing anime. Maybe borderline anime. It has everything that anime has except for those big eyes.

Depends on your perspective and how you define things. Tekken clearly has influences from the anime medium in that there are certain tropes that characters adhere to and also some situations that the characters are put in. In previous Tekken games, Xiaoyu even got anime style ending videos. This is heavily because of the country of origin the game comes from, of course it's going to be influenced by pop culture in someway or another.

In terms of gameplay, Tekken is definitely not an anime game, those games play completely different and have tons of metres etc.. The artstyle in Tekken may be slightly influenced by them in some areas but there's not enough weight to say that it is an anime game.


Also, Steam tags aren't always the most accurate. I've seen many cutesy games tagged as psychological horror

My favorite anime is composed by two brothers the male super horny the female with kneesocks always teasing him collecting his porn but they never f*** in 13 episodes and the manga is obnoxiously long and still going so much so that I believe he'll end up in a g******* with prez, childhood friendo & sis and he'll die.
