you can sidestep them but its just a totaly boring ♥♥♥♥ fight its not worth the effort.
You must be very aggressive with him and get close to unmesh his deadly combos and shuriuken
And to answer the question yes he is cannon and is written into the story in a pretty big way
If enough people will complain about Akuma, he might end up doing this and we get more SF characters.
Just like he put in Lucky Chloe, after so many people complained about her.
