My button presses don't match what is shown on screen in the menus (Xbox Elite controller)

This is giving me a headache.

B is not "back" for me, it is actually X. And several buttons "confirm" when I think they shouldn't.

Check anyways. Go to controller settings under "Button Mapping".

Hopefully the Xininput stuff still works for you. It should work. Remap the keys there.

It's called customization. And the default configuration does work. This is on your end, man.

That's what we're doing. Helping. REMAP THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BUTTONS. Double check, don't immediately go to default. I'm LITERALLY using a PS3 controller with emulation software to make my PC think that it's an Xbox Controller and I have no problems.

Go to Button Mapping, Controller settings, REMAP THE BUTTONS and make sure to remap each button to the one you think is on your controller.

I did double check. And it's hard to remap when your buttons are all ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.

But that doesn't matter. You go to the list and start pushing the buttons you want for each action. I honestly don't understand the problem. Sorry

i recommend u buy a ps4 controller emulation software like that introduces input lag and when the game already has 7 frames of input lag, it adds up! get ps4 controller and steam recognizes it as a steam controller, 0 input lag, it's like pressing a button on your keyboard.

Honestly, I would. But I don't want to drop any more money at the moment and I'm being as cost effective as possible.
