My favorite yoshimitsu design is the one from Tekken 3, also loved the one in soul calibur 4. (The soul calibur V one also looks quite decent, but I take issue with how he looks like he's an undead skeleton but undead cyborg look seems to have been the trend in soul calibur for yoshimitsu whereas in tekken it's just been cyborg ninja)
Reason I hated the tekken 4 design was mostly those retarded fly wings. Why put wings on someone who can already fly? It's a dumb design move.
Still I noticed something about the new yoshimitsu design, it looks significantly better in-game than on the illustration I linked to. https://cdn0.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/hFfco9j3uI8h_glV4oe_xrfs5S4=/0x600/cdn0.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/3681894/004.0.jpg
I think the illustration just had some major flaws mostly due to the pose choice, it obscures the coolest parts particularly his left arm, while the pose is cool, you really need to see his torso design in it's full glory to be able to appreciate how cool this design is.

It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good design after all, the tentacles were always minimal and small in the original design and they are so too in the in-game model but on the artwork they look exaggerated. Artist should have chosen a better pose I think. He went for a s trong pose, it's not a bad pose at all but for this design it hides the most important parts behind his left arm (also the glass helm istoo blurry, he should have rendered the face with finer details as it is in the actual game) but these are by no means rookie mistakes, it's ♥♥♥♥ that requires a critical second opinion to be noticed.
I think I can get behind this design after all because after seeing him standing up it's a freaking amazing design even if the tentacles are kinda iffy, besides the tentacles it's definitely an awesome yoshimitsu design... But if I just think of the tentacles as a decoration (like a hero cape...) then it's ok, I can live with this after all.
I'm pretty happy to see how many of his old tekken 3 moves he has. I'm gonna have fun with this game. Assuming the controls are still like tekken and not like street fighter. Best served with a D-Pad rather than analogue stick right?
As for why. I choose to think it's because of his tekken 6 ending. The sword absorbed the devil jin and has corrupted him
