It's a little complex though as you do need to repoint reg keys and create symbolic folder/file links as well as place a copy of the fsx.exe into the main FSW folder, perhaps not for the faint of heart but greatly enjoyable if you like to tweek and get things working that normally wouldn't. Backup first...
It is possble to get some pretty good results though, just don't expect everything to go trouble free and perfect given you'd be shoehorning and of course there will be no people flow.
I'd give the free Orbx products a go first.
Here's an example of testing, the Gold Coast Australia CityScape.

I am really puzzled why Obrx did not convert FSX Global openLC and Vector for FSW given that the game has Orbx Base built-in. It was one of selling points for me as I was looking for better scenery for VFR, even if paid.
I will try to find something free from Obrx and experiment with it. Thanks again!
Guessing, but it looks like DTG only wanted to pay for the textures as they would have the most striking effect on the terrain of FSW for the average person. Paying for the OpenLC and Vector would be lost on the casual player.
Or maybe ORBX did not want to sell the rights to use OpenLC and Vector in the base FSW. Maybe they planned to sell those as separate addons later.
Again guessing, but after ORBX sold the rights to use FTX Global in the base FSW to DTG it seems that things between ORBX and DTG maybe went sour or cold.
Always suspected it was weird that ORBX never launched or even announced even one of their addons for FSW since it's launch.
With DTG and ORBX being tight-lipped it is hard to find out what really happened.
From what I can see comparing FSX to FSW, the vector data for western Europe was actually improved. I'm not sure about the rest of the world. Eastern Europe still have FS2002/2004 era vector data sadly which I hoped they would improve.
It is really easy, just as Rogen said. I can explain it in more details if someone needs this information
You could be right. Suspected there could be a little more then pure textures but DTG/ORBX did not elaborate as far as I know.
What about ObjectFlow?
ObjectFlow are the DLLS used by ORBX to provide animations, etc. at some of the airports. The normal FSX ORBX DLLS are 32-bit and the FSW client is 64-bit. Therefore I wondered what happened.
Was your FTX Central v3 connected to the Internet?
The basic airports will look fine but what you look for are things like moving grass, people, animals, flags, etc. It can also enhanced the lighting of an airport.
Not a killer as the airports still looks real nice.
'Orbx Libraries alone, without OpenLC and/or Vector, do not result in any such changes to airports.' - Expected as they are just object libraries and not proper scenery.
'Free NA Airports package also did not introduce any moving things to listed airports' - Because they do not utilize the PeopleFlow or ObjectFlow DLLs. They are only found within a number of the payware airports, etc.
Are you just utilizing the freeware ORBX products?
I've tried Vector as well, but it is messing with Sitka airport by putting trees on taxi way to Runway 11. Don't think it added anything else to airports.
