Raiseland

Raiseland

How does it compare to World Machine?
Anyone who has used this - as the title suggests - I'd like to know how the software compares to World Machine. It's significantly cheaper, but also looks like the terrain might be a bit less realistic (though still pretty damn awesome). Anyone with insight care to comment? :)

Been a while since I posed this question. Anyone got an answer?

I'm still considering which to go for, but I always like to support new softwares and such, and this si much cheaper. Even a response from the developer comparing the two would be useful to be honest :)

Hi,
I'll try to be objective...

Raiseland advantages:
-Real-time. From my point of view this is the Raiseland main feature. This makes terrain generation a quick and amusing task.
-Limitless. Raiseland works with very big terrains, real limits will be imposed by the other third party software (game engines, 3d editors). After reading World Machine web page I think World Machine can work with big terrains only if you have one of the expensive licenses (249$-1500$).
-Camera free. Raiseland camera has no restrictions. I think that World Machine camera has some restrictions, they cannot be moved to any place.
-New software. This is an advantage (Raiseland uses new techniques like GPGPU, users feedback is taken more into account) and a disadvantage (lack of third party tutorials).

World Machine advantages:
-Water erosion. Raiseland tries to mimic real terrains, but it does not include (at least yet) a water erosion physical simulator. However, for some effects, the Raiseland paint-like tools may be a good substitute.
-Maturity. World Machine is not a new program. Lot of minor features will be supported. However, I release periodical updates which adds supports for this kind of features. Most of them are included after users feedback.

Hope it helps,
David
