Executable being flagged as Malware/Trojan

Somewhere in the last couple of days my Bitdefender suddenly started freaking out over the gv_win.exe claiming it was infected with Gen:Variant.Symmi.57740.
Even re-downloading it from Steam doesn't fix this issue so I can only conclude that the most recent virus definition trips over some action the game performs.

Having run the file through Virus Total 13 of the 54 engines come back with an alert so I guess they are somewhat more strict than others.

I hope that either the devs can remedy this situation or that in a future virus definition it is no longer flagged as being malware or a trojan as the only way I can currently play is by defining the game as an exclusion in my av and I realy don't like doing that.

Your anti-virus detected some game files as viruses and removed them in quarantine but thing is there is no viruses in game so this is false positive detection I suggest you find those files and exclude them so anti-virus doesn't scan them anymore and if you don't know how to get those files back I suggest you verify game cache so steam redownloads them this way you won't need to redownload entire game but only missing files.

Sorry to hear about this happening to you! This is the first and only case we have heard about this with Gunvolt. I will have someone look into it, but I have a feeling this is a simple false positive detected by your antivirus software.

If you didn't excluded those files or turned antivirus off completely using verify game cache won't help you because it will continue removing those same files.

Usually in situations like these(yes, it's happened to other Steam games, so don't panic), the best thing you can do for now is check if the file was just quarantined in the anti virus and allow the file. You can also set an exclusion to whichever folder the game is installed in. You'll probably have to look up how to do either for which anti virus you're using.

I would rather wait until a patch is released to fix this so I can reinstall the game. I'm just glad the devs at Inti are aware of this.

If this is triggered by something that can't just be taken out of the game, maybe there won't be a simple fix for this. Since we can say with almost 100% certainty that this is a false positive, the most reasonable course of action for now is to add an exception to your virus scanner.
