Five Nights at Freddy's 4

Five Nights at Freddy's 4

How to Get Through Nightmare Mode
It's hard, but still easier than Nightmare mode on FNAF 3, but here's some tips.

  • 1. Don't let Foxy get into your room if you can help it. You might as well close the game and start over if he gets in before 2 AM because it's really hard to balance the other three animatronics with him in there.

  • 2. You have about 35 seconds before the little Freddys on the bed kill you if you don't shine the light on them at all. (I timed it at 37 seconds, but 35 is the last moment you can really do anything about it)

  • 3. If Foxy does get in your closet, generally, if you shut the door and count to six (slowly), he'll either go into plush form, or otherwise recede into the closet long enough for you to attend to the other animatronics. You have to be patient with him, because if you don't wait long enough before shining your light on him, you're just wasting precious time.

  • 4. The game is almost unplayable without a good sound system. You cannot expect to make it through Nightmare mode without headphones or some other superior form of stereo sound (make sure your computer settings aren't on mono sound). If you don't like your ear getting torn off by really loud noises, then I found if there are no other sounds in your house, half volume works just fine with headphones. (Each computer is different though, but make sure you can hear ALL sound cues). If you're deaf, playing the game is still possible, but you will need someone at your side to communicate with you and help you decide what to do where.

  • 5. You might be able to beat the night without Foxy getting in your room at all. You really need to listen for the sound cues. The fast running sound is more often than not Foxy. It doesn't matter if you turn around to shine the light on Freddy, if you hear running from the right side, no matter which way you're facing, that's what side of the room Foxy has run to. He will run back and forth, but make sure you keep up with him. Sometimes, you just can't avoid it because you need to make sure Bonnie and Chica aren't at your door, and he'll slip in while he has his chance. If you listen carefully, then you actually have a good chance of keeping him from entering your room at all.

  • 6. Keep in mind that each hour is a minute long, so at minimum, you'll want to check on the Freddys at least 2 - 3 times each hour.

  • 7. When Bonnie and Chica are moving, it sounds kind of like crunching sounds. If you shine your light when you hear that, you'll sometimes see them creeping back into the shadows, but always listen at the door for about 4 seconds just to be sure you don't hear breathing.

  • 8. You'll notice that at 4 AM you'll be facing not Fredbear, but Nightmare Fredbear. The game gets a lot harder and more intense the second Nightmare hits the scene. Like night 6, it will transition over to Nightmare Fredbear at exactly 4AM. Luckily, his jumpscare isn't as scary or loud as the other ones, but it is incredibly frustrating since getting to 4 AM is a task in itself, and it's not hard for him to kill you.

  • 9. Treat Nightmare like you would Fredbear. Shine the light first, and if he's there, immediately shut the door. The difference is, you have even less time to react when he does things, and he's even more aggressive than normal Fredbear. Hold the door shut until you hear him crunch away, and if you can, also pay attention to which hall he runs to. After you hear him scurry away, there's no need to shine your flashlight down the same hall. Sometimes, you'll hear him laugh. That generally means he's gotten into your room, but before you check the bed or the closet, make sure the laugh wasn't accompanied by footsteps, because if it was, that means he's not in your room, and he's just trying to ♥♥♥♥ with you. If you didn't hear footsteps, check the bed first because it's the closest to you. Hold the flashlight on, because if you let it flick off for even a second, he'll kill you. You must be quick on your feet, though, and pay careful attention to the sound cues, because you cannot hope to beat Nightmare without being vigilant and keeping your ears pricked. It's very nerve-wracking, and I've died a lot simply by hitting the wrong buttons by accident, but you can do it!

I really hope that helped. Nightmare mode is difficult, but not impossible. Markiplier also beat it, so if you watch his video, that will also lend clues of how to beat it.

Edit: Some folks in the comments informed me that whenever you see a flicker, that means another Freddy has spawned on the bed, so also keep that in mind as you try to juggle Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy! Also, someone else also informed me that the hours are only one minute long. I used to think it was 86 seconds like the old games, but I timed it just to be sure, and it is a minute long. If that helps.

Thanks for the effort.

Question but did you detect what all the flickering lights patters mean?

It means the Freddles are about to send Freddy to kill you.

Only that? It has no meaning regarding any other animatronic?

Nope. Just check the Freddles and you're good.

The flicker means a little Freddy spawned on the bed. if you get a bunch of them, or long pauses, prepare to die.

Lots of good tips.

Each hour on FNAF4 should be a solid minute.

Interesting about the 37 sec thing...Foxy runs on the same type of timer in FNAF1.

I actually didn't notice that. I figured it had something to do with the little Freddy's being more active, and that you have less time once the flickers start happening. I was mainly just curious how much time you did have before they kill you, so I timed it out of curiosity. Thank you, though. I didn't know that. :)

I haven't timed the hour passages for this game, although I probably should have, lol, but when I wrote it I was by myself and it's easier to time the hours if you have someone else there with you. The wiki said each hour goes by at 86 seconds for games 1-3, but since Fnaf 4 is relatively new, I don't know. If the hours do for sure pass by at a solid minute at a time, I will revise my tips. :) But I do know that for mobile versions, the animatronics are more aggressive, but the hours pass by more quickly, too.

Also, if you listen very closely, you can hear the faint screams of freddys minions. If you hear a lot a once, check the bed

i'm late to the party but the flickers does not mean freddles are being spawned more often than not you won't get flickers until you are too far gone. the flickers is a mechanic in the game. i don't remember exactly anxiety meter or something i heard it in a video whenever an animatronic is at the door or there are 3 freddles or foxy is on his final stages lights start flickering and it stacks. it's basically telling you that you can't keep up and if you keep being slow u are ded
