I don't think the phantom's were real, but I do think they represented what purple guy suffer's every day. Notice that they have the same eyes as springtrap? At fisrt I thought that meant that springtrap created those (because of the eyes) but then, I figured that they were the children's spirits taunting him.

1. Probably not. Physically, I mean.

2. Because then it would be easy to confuse Phantom Bonnie with Springtrap.
