Confession time; I'm a lifelong CEC nerd and I totally fangirl the place. 2012 pic: http://fnafseeyouontheflipside.tumblr.com/post/143430344206/redneckamericanprincess-so-we-took-the-kiddos

The guy in the video probably Didn't get fired, but he was probably told to wear the chin strap next time. It's not unusual for kids to try to take the head off in the first place. Kids aren't really fooled by the costume; If they are, they're usually too scared to get close enough to look.
Sometimes parents are a bit of a problem. I had a couple who were egging their son to punch me while I was dancing for a birthday party. Kid had a hell of a left hook and nearly knocked the wind right out of me, but the other kids told him off like a posse of lil' bosses. My General Manager was not happy with the parents at that point, but we didn't do anything malicious about it. Stern talk, we will call police in the event of a physical assault and remind them we do have audio recording with our CCTV system.
CEC was one of the best jobs I had as teen. The place is great. Honestly, kids get more done there then the staff needs to. They'll let you know when the games aren't working as intended, when someone is causing problems, if there are any... 'issues' in the sky tubes, etc. Just keeping it all operating on an even keel is pretty easy and fun.
I don't get why some parents actually encourage their kids to "sock the mascot." My pal in college was the school's basketball mascot and she got roughed up and tossed down a set of bleacher steps during a game, all in the name of fun. She broke several ribs, and the aggressors were college kids, i.e. grown adults. :/ I have another pal who's a fursuiter and has had to deal with parents who egg their kids on to "fight him." Er...no, that's a costume that probably cost several hundred or thousand bucks, and why would you encourage your kid to hurt an animal, fictional or not?
That's at least cool that the other kids recognized his actions were wrong and called him on it. As a former mascot performer myself (4-H fairs) I'm glad nobody ever smacked me. :/
And yeah, kids are pretty awesome overall if their parents guide them right. During the summer I worked at the local amusement park I often oversaw the ball pit and kids would bring me split plastic balls they found in the pit, saying they were worried "another kid might get cut on this." That's altruism at its best. <3
