Nightmare is Shadow Freddy (THEORY WITH EVIDENCE)
In FNAF4's files, there is a file called "shadow freddy - extras" that contains the labels for Nightmare Mode and 20/20/20/20 Mode, in which the animatronic Nightmare appears.

Nightmare is a dark, shadowy version of Nightmare Fredbear.
Nightmare Fredbear is a Nightmare Version of Fredbear, (obviously) and Fredbear becomes Golden Freddy, and Shadow Freddy is the dark, shadowy version of Golden Freddy.

no. It has been theorized that the shadow freddy is a ghost of the employee who was murdered in that suit by the suit. If that makes sense

What I meant was that the kid saw Shadow Freddy, and in his messed up dreams sees it as Nightmare, as he sees Fredbear as Nightmare Fredbear.

That is ONE theory, this is ANOTHER theory.
There can be more than one theory at a time.
Either one could be the answer.
Maybe BOTH are wrong...
Until Scott confirms it, there's no TRUE answer.
