It's like trying to jam a circle block into a square hole on one of those childrens' toys.
Like, say, if you believe William Afton is the Purple Guy, then most of it is not canon; if you think Michael Afton is Purple Guy, then more of it can be. I know that may seem like a large oversimplification of the game's world, but again, we don't really know 100% of everything that happened in the games themselves. If anything, this book gave us more direct information than the games ever did! Like I said before, I pretty much go by the logic that if the book doesn't go against any obvious FACTS about the games' lore (which I don't think it does), than it can be a canon as you want, unless shown otherwise.
TL;DR Depending on how you perceive the game's universe, it may or may not be canon.
Spoiler for what?
The fact that they refer to someone as that doesn't mean that game is related to the book, it just confirms that Afton likely is the canon surname for Purple Guy in the games.
I'm not sure what you're saying, but this is my understanding:
There are two seperate timelines, both of which are apparently canon but not to each other.
One is for the book, one is for the games.
They share many similarities, such as Purple Guy being named Afton.
They also have many differences, such as Henry existing in the book but not in the games.
The book timeline SHOULD NOT be used to solve the games' lore, and vice versa.
As for SL, it seems to fall under the games' timeline more than the books'.
(just to add onto the conversation)
Here are some things I personally think that are different between the books and games:
BOOK: Afton and Henry are two different people.
GAME: Afton and Henry are the same person.
WHY: Afton magically gets a son and a daughter in SL, and since there's no proof of Henry existing, as well as "Mr. Afton" in the beginning dialogue seeming to have been the one to design the robots while he didn't in the books, I think it can be safe to assume that they're one and the same in the games.
BOOK: Charlie never dies.
GAME: Charlie dies and possesses Circus Baby.
WHY: Having established my earlier point of Afton being Charlie's possible father in the games, Charlie is likely the one who died in Circus Baby considering the night-beginning dialogue who refers to the designer of the animatronics as "daddy."
BOOK: Golden Freddy is the same as Fredbear.
GAME: Golden Freddy is NOT the same as Fredbear.
WHY: The bowties and hats. They were a main focus on Nightmare Fredbear's teaser, and for a reason: Fredbear was not Golden Freddy. Though, my personal compromise being that Golden Freddy was a spare suit of Fredbear.
Tell me what you think.
