what is the point of the caged farmer and how do you untrap the farmer from the cage?

You put them in water so they have to swim, they get exercise, they squeeze through bars after thinning out enough.

Well, on a certain moment you will find out where to bring them (don't want to add any spoilers here), but..... it can be great fun to use your hammer to move them around to where they need to go. Fun.... and challenging :-)

Maybe in the future you will build a vehicle to transport them.

when i gather them, i usually just build a simple cage, made of scrap wood, around their cage that is attached to the front or back of my car. I then proceed to roll them like a giant ball bearing all the way back to the trader. the yodeling is amazing. just park right up to them and build a ring from your bumper around the ball. then go over the top once. done. bearing cage.
