And whatever they post anywhere is meaningless unless it's actually pushed and a new version for steam is built that puts it into our hands. We've not been edged for this update one year. We've not been edged for this update 2 years.
It's quite literally been ages since the last *real* update and since then we got a carrot on a stick with an update that never came and the carrot has since rotten so there's no devblog to show it off as engagement or sentiment from the community over seeing stuff they never get probably didn't improve. :)
You read too much into that post. The only statements the devs have ever definitively made is that the next update will be 1.0 and that it will be out this year. They said nothing about releasing a performance update prior to that point, only that they have basically been sidetracked the last 6 months trying to squash a performance bug.
this. from what i understand its a smallish team, and this is an ambitious update with a whole lotta physics and new mechanics involved. im no game dev, but that kinda stuff cant be like changing batteries in a remote lmao, this stuff takes time, depends on manpower and what youre going for. scrap mechanic is an insane physics/sand box building game with all kinds of whacked out blocks that do insane stuff that im sure is incredibly frustrating to code
what i think happened is over time this update turned from just chapter 2 into an absolute unit of an update. not only are they trying to introduce new content but also rework much of what already exists, such as lighting, physics, and really the entire engine. iirc they're also going to be porting the game to consoles/other devices.
if there are to be more updates after this, which can be assumed from former devblogs, they will most likely take substantially less time.
i think what should've been done instead is this being broken up into several smaller updates. there is definitely enough content for 4 years worth of work, but to go this long with little to no major updates is ridiculous.
No you dont... Look at EA and Anthem... you dont have to finish it or support it or anything... just release it for 60$ add some micro transactions promise the community something wait 2 years then say naw its not worth it and dont give refunds or nothing for the alpha garbage you released charging Triple A prices for...
I'm counting it as abandonware. If steam verification wasn't required for multiplayer I'd have no qualms with yo-ho-hoing a copy just so my family can play this together without further funding these artists that can't be bothered to deliver the product they promised.
exactly!
